The Heartbreak Kid
Here are some Blu-Ray clips from the critically reviled film. Sorry, I got
the sound a hair off when I re-muxed the audio and video. It's a long, tedious
process to create these, because both hi-def formats use a different container
and different codecs from the old DVD standard, so one has to break them down
into the separate components, then re-encode each stream, then re-mux the
streams into an .avi. To make a long story short, it isn't worthwhile to go
through all that for a crap film like The Heartbreak Kid, because the nudity
is too dark to be worthwhile. If I had had a HD-DVD of Good Luck Chuck, then
it would have been time well spent. Oh, well, at least I've learned how to do
it all now, for future use.

Here are some captures. These started at
1920x1080, but the A/R was extremely wide, so the effective size was only 792
rows, not 1080. I cropped the sides since there was nothing useful there. It
doesn't matter how big they are because the scenes were so dark that I had to
brighten them, and when that is necessary they always end up looking look like crap, even in hi-def, except for the scene with Frank Costanza and the jumbo-tit chick. One more reason to dislike this film.

Hack
This 2007 comedy/horror film should have been titled "Cliché", since it
contained every movie cliché in the book, apparently on purpose. In fact,
the title does not mean what you think either; it refers to a hack movie
director. Either way, and regardless of the attempt at cleverness, it's a
very poor comedy, totally lame, and only a mediocre horror attempt.
A group of college students make a field trip to an island to study
wildlife for extra credit. The island is managed by a married couple whose
real passion is classic cinema, and the couple is constantly filming
everything. Unfortunately, the studying is kept to a minimum as the group
starts to die one-by-one, in classic clichéd horror movie style.
You may get a kick out of all the horror film references, but the movie
itself will only provide a kick in the head. Yeah, it's pretty bad.
