Twogether

Back in the mid-90s, every 21st Century or Newvision release (one of the other, I can't remember exactly which) had a trailer for today's movie Twogether, before every movie and I saw it so often that it seemed like they trailered that movie for a decade (watched mainly in fast forward although there could've been nudity in the trailer, don't remember). Anyway, 25+ years later I've finally gotten around to watching it and as soon as I saw that the running time was 122 minutes, I knew I was going to have a problem with this movie.

Well, Twogether is a relationship drama where a party boy artist (Nick Cassavetes) falls for a rich girl environmentalist (Brenda Bakke), although that is barely mentioned in the movie, she's the world's worst environmentalist if that's true. Anyway, they have a wild week in Las Vegas, get married, decide that was a stupid idea, get a divorce, fuck to celebrate and whammo, she gets pregnant. Well, they're stuck with one another now and while they kinda like one another, they don't want to be together.

So fun and games except this drags on and on for the aforementioned 2 hours with two of the most obnoxious characters ever. It even ends in an incredibly obnoxious way. Just a turgid movie all round. It reminded me a lot of another 90s movie that had a similar plot and was similarly turgid, She's So Lovely and wouldn't know it, that movie is directed by Nick Cassavetes, the star of Twogether. Ah, the circle of shit...
