Wake
Wood
(2011)

comments:
Wake
Wood is an Irish horror
thriller about a couple,
Patrick and Louise
(Aidan Gillen and Eva
Birthistle), who have
just lost their daughter
Alice in a vicious dog
attack and have moved to
a town called Wake Wood,
where Patrick becomes
the new vet. One night
after their car breaks
down, they head up to
the nearest farm and
Louise spies some sort
of ceremony where
someone appears to be
born. She quickly
leaves, but are noticed
by the head of the
group. Arthur (Timothy
Spall), the local
retiring vet. When
Patrick and Louise get
home they are startled
by Arthur who makes them
an offer the get back
their daughter for three
days so they can say
goodbye properly, but
she cannot leave the
town. After
deliberating, they
accept the offer. And
they are lucky because
if she had been dead for
over her year, their
daughter could not be
reborn. It has been just
over 11 months. They get
their daughter back, but
something is wrong with
her. She seems to be
obsessed with death and
she wants to leave the
town. Then the killings
start. What to do with
the homicidal daughter?
An OK little thriller
that has it's merits
even if it has
credibility issues the
longer it goes. The
ending is quite
something though and
almost makes the film.
Yeah, sure, it riffs on
similar films, but it's
well worth a look and
there are plenty worse
out there.
