I've talked about this one before a lot. It won a lot of awards, and people are sharply divided on its merits, a debate which was held up to the light by Seinfeld. (The cynical Elaine hated it, and the pompous Mr Peterman felt that it taught him the true meaning of love.) I thought it was a decent entertainment flick. I think the controversy really centers around the fact that it's a good enough flick, but people talked about it as if it were the be-all and end-all of existence, thus irritating the daylights out of those who would have liked it well enough if it hadn't come so highty touted.

"Boys on the Side", from Tuna

How much commentary do you need? The value of this movie was to expose Drew Barrymore's breasts. While this goal is not as worthy as alleviating world hunger, it is much easier to achieve.

Actually, it's a chick-flick road picture intended to give us insensitive cads a lesson in understanding the female perspective. Ebert gave it three and a half, praised its character development, and saw it as life-affirming. Desson Howe of the Washington Post attacked it with a vengeance, calling it a tear-jerking melodrama, and claiming that the characters could be listed in the Guinness book for experiencing the most contrived bittersweet moments. From those two extremes, you can probably figure out whether you would like it or not.

"My Tutor", from Johnny Web

This movie is the very zenith of masturbatory youthploitation flicks. High school senior fails French, needs to spend all summer on cramming for a make-up exam so he can go to college. He has a ditzy mom and a domineering dad. He has Crispin Glover for a best friend, and the two of them are trying all sorts of schemes to lose their virginity. And his French tutor is a gorgeous 30ish blond with an ample bosom who loves to skinny-dip at night. Do you need to know anything else?

Caren Kaye, the tutor. Caren is kind of saggy, and I'm surprised that she allowed it her buns to be shot straight on in bright light (collage #4, which also demonstrates a saggy bosom). In general, however, I find her very sexy. (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8) TQ legend Kitten Natividad as a playful hooker in a bordello the boys visit. Note the kid's subtle facial expressions in collage one. He is, by the way, Matt Lattanzi, the handsome lad who was married for many years to Olivia Newton-Fig. He seems to have disappeared from the public eye, although he was only 35 when he made his last appearance (5 years ago). He didn't have a lot of talent to go with his youthful good looks, and he has a very high and whispery speaking voice. (#1, #2) Jewel Shepard in a fantasy sequence. (#1) Graem McGavin as an amateur hooker - a waitress who will have sex to make a few extra bucks. (#1) Katt Shea as a mudwrestler whose dress the boys rip off in a drive-by. (#1)
