"Damage"

Damage (1992) is a Louis Malle film about the sexual obsession of a Member of Parliament (Jeremy Irons) for his son's fiance. Juliette Binoche. The two meet at a party, their eyes meet, and with that one glance, their fates are sealed. At least, that is what the film makers would ask us to accept. The two engage in compulsive sex with an intensity bordering on painful, yet Binoche is completely in love with the son, and everyone is happily planing the marriage. It, of course, ends badly. How could it not? Unfortunately, Malle went on another 15 minutes after what could have been one of the strongest, most powerful endings of all time, and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. I have to give him credit for getting Juliette Binoche naked, although it took most of the film to do it. We do get one good bush shot, and some lovely breast shots. Miranda Richardson, as Iron's wife, also shows breasts briefly. IMDB readers have this at 6.4 of 10. Critical response was about 70% positive. Ebert, for instance, awarded four stars, whereas Berardinelli gave it 2 1/2. Richardson received several awards and nominations. Besides missing a chance at a truly memorable ending, I wish Malle would have given me more about the Biniche character other than the fact that the suicide of her brother "damaged" her. In fact, better development of all of the characters would have helped this tremendously. It barely avoids chick flick ranking, and favors no particular age group. I will give it a C. Given the cast and the original concept, a much better film was possible.

    "Altered States"

    Altered States (1980) is a Ken Russell film I somehow managed to miss. William Hurt, in his big screen debut, stars as a genius working at Harvard on altered states of consciousness from which he hopes to understand the death of his father. After some interesting work with sensory deprivation and study of schizophrenics with strong religious episodes, he hears of a ritual drug in South America, and rushes off to try it and bring back a sample. All of this while his wife (Blair Brown, herself a genius) and their daughter, Drew Barrymore in her film debut, are off to Africa to study apes.

    Hurt finds the drug, and is able to regress to a certain point using it, but can't increase the dose as he is taking a near toxic amount, and decides to combine the depravation chamber with the drug to see if he can go deeper into his genetic history. He is not only able to have visions of his ancient genetic predecessors, but also physically regresses. He is very odd, compulsive, driven, and a mess at social interaction, which makes him the love of Blair Brown's life, as she is somewhat that way herself, and would be bored to death with a more normal man.

    The film is full of what was, for the time, spectacular special effects. Even though some of the techniques are now dated, it remains visually effective. Altered states of consciousness was a big thing in the 60's, especially with mind altering drugs. Various religious and scientific cults continued the interest for a decade or so, making this film a hot topic at the time it was released.

    This is a Sci Fi fan's sci fi heaven. It explores interesting new ideas in a believable context, and has nudity and sex from Hurt and Brown. We see breasts and buns from Brown, and breasts from an unknown woman during a dream sequence. IMDB readers have this at 6.5 of 10. Hurt garnered a Golden Globe nomination for his effort. In point of fact, had this been a more Hollywood mainstream film, both Hurt and Brown should have been considered for Oscar nominations, as they absolutely nailed the characters. Critical response at IMDB is 100% positive. I share the enthusiasm. This is a fascinating and original film that could not possibly have been done better. The IMDB score is the only thing keeping me from a solid B, so B- is the correct score.

    PARIS UPDATE:

    •  The video is, however, completely legit. I paid my fifty bucks and watched it. It is certainly Paris and Rick. It finishes with a five to seven minute BJ, in good natural light (not night-vision), with Paris's breasts in the shot the entire time. The grand finale is a money shot on her chest. These two would make excellent porn stars. Rick has a big one which stays hard constantly, and Paris is a champion sword swallower.

    • The original video delivers a 640x480 (nearly DVD specs) picture in 144 meg, with satisfactory video. It is technically excellent for a home video. I have not seen a rip that good.

    • Here is an upgraded .wmv file of the last minute or so, a much better rip than the one from yesterday. If you see this, you've seen the highlight.

    FYI when I hypercam vids to make the file size smaller I use DivX MPEG-4 Fast-Motion for the video compressor, then I use virtualdub to compress the audio. The properties for the vids says the video codec:  DivX Decoder Filter & audio codec:  Morgan Stream Switcher which I'm not familiar with. When I compress the audio with virtualdub I use MPEG Layer-3.  A friend of mine told me about compressing the audio about (6) mos. ago. Like I said previously, only been capping for a year & a half & I'm no expert. Hopefully this info will help members with the proper codecs for my vids.
     
    When I cap big brother's I use hypercam mostly & sdp & asfrecorder if the set up allows me. I stopped using camtasia cause the file sizes were always too big, could never figure out the process, over my head lol, plus it cost too much to buy in my opinion.

    I made the .wmv versions of each video. The codecs for these: Windows Video V8, Windows Audio 9. The upside of these is that you know the codecs, and they'll play in the Windows Media Player. The downside is that they are slightly larger, and slightly lower quality.

    Here we have a couple of 'caps and a .wmv movie featuring UK actress Vida Garman in something called 'Game for a Giggle'. In the movie, people are 'set-up' in various erotic situations, and of course, everyone is an 'actor'.

    Vida has been in loads of things here in the UK, she's very decorative.

    Anyway...In this flick, she's at home when the insurance salesman calls. Unfortunately, she's got to get ready to go out, but she leaves the bathroom door open so he can keep talking to her. Thoughtful.

    Of course when she comes out of the bathroom, she loses control of her towel.
