Blood for the Muse (2001) was a direct to video, and is a second feature on the Satan's School for Lust DVD, and made by the same director. Although it is shot in black and white, probably on super 8 mm, and has the look and feel of a student production, it is a far more interesting film than Satan's School for Lust. Video clerk Josh Robinson is so disillusioned with life, and the endless stream of stupid customers that he is forced to deal with ("Of course we have the director's cut, with 48 minutes of material that was cut for a good reason." he says to himself), that he escapes into a comic book called The Dark Muse. The heroine of the comic book becomes his heroine and true love, and he starts killing women in ritualistic sacrifices he himself devises to conjure her out of his dreams and into his reality. The women he chooses at first are hookers. He meets a girl that he actually likes (Tina Krause), but even she is not enough to take him away from the dark muse.

He eventually decides that the sacrifice must be a sacrifice to him to be effective. The acting is competent, with Robinson turning in a very nice characterization of the quietly mad serial killer, and Krause was adorable, but kept her clothes on. The other women are direct to vid scream queens. The dialogue was, at times, very witty, but there was excessive use of voice over, which gave us our insight into Robinson's mind. Most of the gore took place off camera, and black blood is somehow not as disturbing as red blood, so the real interest in the film is Robinson's madness, and breast and bun exposure from two of the hookers, Tammy Parks and Esmeralda De La Rocca.

It is still awaiting 5 votes at IMDB. There are two reviews listed. One of them gives it very high marks for what it is, and the other claims to hate it, but can't really say why, and admits that it held his interest, and might be worth seeing. Had I not watched it after Satan's School, I might not have felt quite as pleased with it, but it is a sometimes interesting very low budget effort. I will give it a C, but with the warning that it is a well made example of what is probably a genre that most will not enjoy, the ultra low budget and nearly amateur film.

Unfortunately for you guys, I'll keep rambling on forever.

10 to Midnight is a typical Charles Bronson vigilante B-movie classic.

Bronson plays about an 125 year old cop who is convinced he knows the identity of a serial killer, despite the fact that the killer has an airtight alibi for the last murder. Lacking any hard evidence, Bronson plants some. When he is caught falsifying the evidence, he is fired from the police force, and decides to go after the bad guy by himself. When the bad guy surrenders, and taunts Bronson with a potential insanity defense, Bronson simply kills the guy in cold blood, while he is standing there naked and handcuffed, in front of dozens of witnesses. The film ends right there.

Exploitation city! In addition to the manipulative portrayal of the violence committed by the killer as well as by Bronson, there is also a monumental amount of nudity, featuring Gene Davis, the look-alike brother of Brad Davis from Midnight Express. Davis commits all of his crimes while stark naked, and we see it all. In a couple of cases his victims are naked as well. In the first murder detailed in the film, a naked Davis chases a naked June Gilbert through an entire forest about the size of the Soviet Union.

Wouldn't this have been a great opportunity for a sequel? Bronson is clearly guilty of first degree murder, and has no possible legal defense. He's either going to get the chair or a sentence to spend the rest of his life getting beaten and sodomized in prison, where he will receive especially unpleasant treatment, since he's a cop who acknowledged falsifying evidence.

Unfortunately, there was to be no sequel. We have to imagine that Big Chuck has done the right thing, rather than picturing him spending the rest of his life tossing the salads of 300 pound criminals.

Given his age when this movie was made, I suppose he could have gotten off by using a senility defense.

I was surprised to see the singer Jeane Manson in this film in a minor role, and then I realized that I was unaware of a big chunk of her life, an American portion, which began as a Playmate and ended with this movie. She is now one of the most popular female recording artists and musical theater divas in French history, and her face is well known in that country, having appeared on ten best-selling albums. She is a versatile singer, having performed everything from opera to C&W to Broadway roles to traditional French popular chanson. She is also a respected stage and TV actress, having achieved artistic success, and also universal recognition as the star of 130 episodes of Riviera, a sort of French version of Dynasty. She's even a published poet!

Despite her fame in France, the American is known in the States (if at all) only for her minimal screen career and her appearances in Mr. Hefner's famous magazine from 1974 to 1979, which I was not aware of until today! It's interesting, because she is probably the single most accomplished former Playmate in history, yet the magazine rarely or never mentions her in retrospectives.

Today we take the time machine on a trip back to 1979 and a look at the late Dudley Moore vehicle "10". Certainly not a great movie, but not a bad one either as Dudley did have a knack for comedy.

We see Bo Derek, sexy but not really revealing much as her nude scenes were either dark or shot from a distance.
