"Killer Barbys"
Killer Barbys (1996) is a Jess Franco horror film written around the punk group of the same name, and is said to be his goriest ever. Other than a bunch of obviously fake body parts, a few throat slashings, and the ending scene where the countess stabs her lover then frolics in his blood, I found the gore level rather tame compared to Italian shock horror films. The KIller Barbys, on their way to a gig in their van, have a breakdown. They are invited to spend the night in the castle of Countess Fledernaus (Mariangela Giordano). They don't realize that when the hundred and fifty year old countess invites them to dinner, they are intended as the main course. Seems the countess has discovered the secret to eternal youth, which is drinking the warm blood of young people.
Her butler has two creepy dwarf kids who help him gather and slaughter food for the countess, including a naked Angie Barea, who plays an over-sexed band member. Giordano shows breasts and buns in a long, but darkly lit sex scene with another band member. IMDB readers give it 3.4 of 10, and I have to agree. The entire film is dark and grainy, the plot is weak at best, and it is not my type of music. I do have to say that I enjoyed the enthusiasm of The Killer Barbys' leader, Silvia Superstar. D+

"O"
O (2001) is the Othello set in a contemporary American prep school. Rather than a soldier, O is a basketball hero, and the only black in the school. The coaches son is jealous of the attention he gets, especially from his father, as O leads the team toward a state title. Julia Stiles, as daughter of the dean, is O's main squeeze. Scoop did an in depth review a few days ago. I agree that the adaptation is well done, and the film is very well made. The DVD release is spread over two DVDs, and includes an early film of Othello, and tons of interviews and commentaries, along with deleted scenes.
Stiles stayed very dressed, even during a brutal sex scene with O, that was really his acting out rage and jealousy rather than passion. One of the readers requested images of Julia Stiles even though she didn't show anything on the grounds that she is really cute. I tend to agree. The film is a B-.

MOVIES:
Love Come Down
This film is an excellent illustration of the
fact that you don't have to spend a lot of money to make a good movie. Well
written and acted, it is a character-based drama with a psychological mystery
underlay. Easy watch. It seems to me that former child star Larenz Tate has
what it takes to become an acting star. He certainly presented a loveable,
troubled, insecure, and very complex real man in this role. You really root for
this guy to get the girl.
- Naomi Gaskin. This is one fine woman right here. Great face. Great chest.

Tom Berenger, now weighing in about 230, as the jaded police detective
caught in a trap by a pretty girl. Lame. Quite a bit of nudity from
unidentified extras, but very little from Lori Heuring, whom you may remember
from The In Crowd.

Marat Safin may not have won the Australian Open, but I'm sure he doesn't care cause he sure as heck had the best Groupies. Dubbed by the Media as the 'Safinettes', these girls were impressive. None more so than Russian Bombshell, Katya Bestoujeva. While you will find no listing for this girl in the IMDB, you will be pleased to know that she was kind enough to wear an outfit that gave us a hint of what Marat had in store, win loose or draw!

Taking Out The White Trash - Fox TV is planning a special for March 13th called "Celebrity Boxing," whose featured match will be a "Battle of the Bad Girls" between Amy Fisher and Tonya Harding. A Fox spokesman told New York Newsday that it will be a real boxing match, but nobody will get hurt: the celebs will have heavy gloves and head protection, they'll be "evenly matched, and there'll be a lot of flailing of arms. So what?"
* Plus, Amy will be equipped with knee pads.
* And they won't bleep the profanity: that would compromise the show's integrity.
* Tonya can't last three rounds...She smokes four packs a day.
* How about a show where Tonya Harding just beats the crap out of whoever thinks up these Fox specials?
