TV Round-Up

Californication, s4e9, featured one of the best sex scenes of the year. Probably will make the annual top twenty list. Here's Melissa Stephens. Captures below

Shameless, s1e9, offered minimal nudity. Here's Shanola Hampton (sample below)

and here's Laura Wiggins (sample below)

Caligula

1979

Somebody did some 1080p Blu-Ray rips of Caligula, so I took the opportunity to snap off a few upgrades of Helen Mirren in this film (below).

Drive Angry 3D

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I enjoyed this ridiculous over-the-top action comedy with Nic Cage. I can review it in one sentence: if you liked Crank 2, you'll like this. It's the same kind of high-energy film with wildly exaggerated violence, improbable situations, a ridiculous premise, gratuitous nudity and straight-faced humor. I found it to be a very satisfying guilty pleasure film, and I will buy it when it comes to Blu-Ray.

This version, unfortunately, is from a cam, but at least you can see what we can look forward to:

  • Charlotte Ross. Although this is a (far more explicit) rip-off of the action/sex scene with Clive Owen and Monica Bellucci in Shoot 'em Up, it nonetheless remains the early favorite for scene of the year.
  • Christa Campbell
  • Mr Skin says the naked woman in this cult scene is Kimberly Shannon Murphy. I can't confirm that, but he is wise in such matters, so we'll go with it.

  • * Yellow asterisk: funny (maybe).

  • * White asterisk: expanded format.

  • * Blue asterisk: not mine.

  • No asterisk: it probably sucks.

OTHER CRAP:

Dead Heart

(1996)

Let's go to the mid 90s and to where all Australian filmmakers eventually go, the outback...

Dead Heart is a 1996 drama about simmering tensions between white and black people. Local copper Ray Lorkin (Bryan Brown, is there anyone more Australian?) is having a lot of trouble with the locals but even more so since there was a death of an aboriginal prisoner at his station. To make peace, he allows the father of the dead man to meet out Aboriginal justice on Lorkin's deputy. Meanwhile, a local school teacher's wife, Kate (Angie Milliken) is in the midst of an affair with a young aboriginal man Tony (Aaron Pedersen). One day, Kate and Tony have relations at a sacred Aboriginal site and all hell breaks lose. Even more so when Tony is found dead from a suspected heart attack that looks like he has been dealt with by Aboriginal law. And now Ray's gonna have a helluva time trying to keep the peace after this, particularly when his ally, the local pastor (Ernie Dingo), seems to be heavily involved with Tony's death. Interesting look at the long simmering tensions between white man's and black man's law that was extremely topical at the time of the film's release (there was a spate of Aboriginal deaths in custody in the early to mid 90s). The film is helped along by some strong performances particularly Bryan Brown as the flawed copper just trying to keep the peace. But, it's heavy stuff and the sex scene is quite full on (and makes up the entirety of the collages).
