  • * Yellow asterisk: funny (maybe).

  • * White asterisk: expanded format.

  • * Blue asterisk: not mine.

  • No asterisk: it probably sucks.

Stripped to Kill

(1987)

Kay Lenz film clips (captures below)

Scoop's notes:

For a while there in the 80s, we saw a rash of "detectives going undercover as strippers" films. There were no such films from A-listers, but Kay Lenz had once come kinda close to that status. When she broke into the business she had leading roles opposite Lee Marvin, Oliver Reed, Bill Holden and other heavy hitters. She married pop superstar David Cassidy.

But ...

By the time Stripped to Kill came along, she had dropped a few tiers, for reasons that have never been clear to me. Her co-stars in this film were Greg Evigan ("BJ and the Bear") and Mr. Roper. The tiny actress never regained the movie success of her youth, but she's still working and has probably appeared on just about any scripted TV show you can name.

All of which reminds me - an off-topic note for my fellow fans of forgotten 70s movies - "The Great Scout and Cathouse Thursday" is now available for three bucks on the amazon.com "instant video" plan. (You can watch it, but not download it.) I'll probably watch it in the next day or so.  I have not seen it in 35 years. I never saw it on VHS and it has never come to DVD. If I remember right, there's no nudity, but it was a pretty good Western comedy.

Colpo Grosso

"In the days to come are clips from Polarscan, edited by me, of the Italian TV show Colpo Grosso. No plot - women strip and seem to score points somehow but who really cares? Some passingly well-known gals, all of them more than sort of attractive. And topless. "

InSearchOf

(2009)

Johnny's comments:

In Search of Sex (InSearchOf) is about the Gross family and how amazingly every one of them is fucked up sexually (and then some). Mindy (the gorgeous Emily Grace of What Alice Found) is in a thorny relationship with Dave, who is busy getting his new business going, except he's lying to Mindy about the business. He is in fact a male prostitute. Shea (Rachael Kemery) knows this and is using Dave for sex and she is in a relationship with Mindy's brother Jack (Michael Rady). Jack is a sexual predator, desperate for sex with anyone, but is currently also involved with Cathy (Jamie Lea Thompson), who claims to be pregnant, but as Jack finds out, she is a high school student. Cathy goes to school with the youngest Gross, Andy, who is struggling with his sexuality and tries to prove he's straight to his friends by sleeping with the local 'retard' who'll let you fuck her for ice cream. Meanwhile, their mother Lauren (Tracey Toth) is having an affair with a much younger man while rejecting her loyal husband. Then Dave, depressed by a trick with a virgin that has really stunned him and Shea's increasing neediness, drives his car into a tree, rendering him disabled. One year later, Mindy has a young child but can't bring herself to visit Dave, Jack has moved on to Beth Ann (Laura Cotterel) who desperately wants a child, Andy is still struggling with his sexuality in collage and Lauren is pregnant to her lover and her loyal husband is about to get a rude shock.

Then things get worse...

Man, this film doesn't mind rubbing your face in the character's fucked up sex lives. The last 15 minutes is like the last 15 minutes of Requiem for a Dream, but sexually, as the characters come to grips with their situations. Some of it is quite shocking. Also, all the high school kids look at least 25, which completely distracts from what the filmmaker is trying to say. And finally, all two of you who read this know how I feel about ensemble dramas and you can only gather what I think as this film evolves. Just one question. How can one family be this fucked up?

Ah well, plenty of sex and nudity throughout, so there's that. And why doesn't Emily Grace get more roles? (And why doesn't she get naked here? Come on!)

Teachers with porn backgrounds

Here's a hardcore collage of the naughty school secretary from Quebec who students found out moonlighted as a porn actress under the moniker Samantha Ardente. Lucky bastards, when I went to school during the 1970s it was a cause of celebration when a home-ec teacher taught a class not wearing a brassiere.

Two long film clips of Monique Van de Ven in Turks Fruit (1973), (Part 1, Part Two), considered by some to be the best Dutch film and the best film of Paul Verhoeven. Not by me. Verhoeven is one of my favorite directors, but I tend to place this film toward the middle of his output, as do IMDb voters:

  1. (8.00) - Black Book (2006)
  2. (7.89) - Soldier of Orange (1977)
  3. (7.60) - RoboCop (1987)
  4. (7.40) - Total Recall (1990)
  5. (7.29) - The Fourth Man (1983)
  6. (7.20) - Turkish Delight (1973)
  7. (7.10) - Starship Troopers (1997)
  8. (6.90) - Basic Instinct (1992)
  9. (6.70) - Flesh+Blood (1985)
  10. (6.61) - Spetters (1980)
  11. (5.50) - Hollow Man (2000)
  12. (4.20) - Showgirls (1995)

I'd choose the same top two (both Dutch films), and would also place some of the American films higher than Turks Fruit. (Total Recall for sure, possibly others.)
