Prizzi's Honor (1985) -- Jack Nicholson is born into the mob, and the Prizzi family godfather swears to be his second father. He is brought up in the business, and is "made" when old enough. He speciality turned out to be hit man. He is attending a wedding, and falls in love with Kathleen Turner at first sight. She has a few secrets, such as the fact that she also does hits, and that she has been scramming the Prizzi family. What follows is a dark comedy pretty much carried by Nicholson and Turner.

The plot is rather complex, but the relationship between the two leads holds the story together. Robert Loggia, Anjelica Huston and John Randolph also turn in decent performances. Turner shows breasts in one of those fast and furious sex scenes where it is hard to tell what body part belongs to whom. IMDb readers have this at 6.9 of 10, and it won an Oscar for best supporting actress (Huston). It virtually swept the Golden Globes, and won a host of other awards and nominations. Rotten Tomatoes is 85% positive. I enjoyed this film very much, but you have to pay attention to follow the plot. B-.

Taking Lives (2004):

This film is still in theaters, and I wrote about it very extensively.

BUT

It is a thriller. Not a good one mind you, but a thriller nonetheless, and I spoiled the living shit out of one of the surprise endings. (It's yet another cheat - an ending that is surprising because it could not be true based on earlier evidence!) So don't read the comments if you object to complete spoilers.

Salma, and the women of The L-Word

Celebrity Sleuth has commented that Salma Hayek is one of the five most beautiful women he has even seen up close face-to-face, and I have to agree based on having seen her last year at Sundance. Although smaller than I expected, she is much more beautiful in person than on screen, and she looks pretty good on screen to begin with. I also found her charming, energetic, and quite genuine. Pretty damned talented, as well.

FYI when I hypercam vids to make the file size smaller I use DivX MPEG-4 Fast-Motion for the video compressor, then I use virtualdub to compress the audio. The properties for the vids says the video codec:  DivX Decoder Filter & audio codec:  Morgan Stream Switcher which I'm not familiar with. When I compress the audio with virtualdub I use MPEG Layer-3.  A friend of mine told me about compressing the audio about (6) mos. ago. Like I said previously, only been capping for a year & a half & I'm no expert. Hopefully this info will help members with the proper codecs for my vids.

 

When I cap big brother's I use hypercam mostly & sdp & asfrecorder if the set up allows me. I stopped using camtasia cause the file sizes were always too big, could never figure out the process, over my head lol, plus it cost too much to buy in my opinion.

I made the .wmv versions of each video. The codecs for these: Windows Video V8, Windows Audio 9. The upside of these is that you know the codecs, and they'll play in the Windows Media Player. The downside is that they are slightly larger, and slightly lower quality.

One notable fact about this movie, it was Traci Lords' first real movie role. Ok, maybe not 'real' movie, but certainly her first non-adult film role.
