"She Creature"
She Creature (2001) is a made for cable that, for me at least, rises well above the usual monster gore-fest. A tiny carny freak-show in turn of the century Ireland, on their last night, is introduced to a real mermaid by an elderly man, who was afraid that their mermaid in the show was a real one, and wanted to warn them about the dangers. Being good carneys, they steal the mermaid, reinforced glass tank and all, and board a ship for America and fame and fortune with Ringling Brothers. They also take a journal kept by the man's wife.
Once aboard ship, they learn the hard way about the nature of mermaids. Seems mermaids, sirens, Circes, Lorelies, etc are all the same creature, and have a damned good reason for luring sailors. They love seafood. The stolen mermaid, it turns out, is the chief gatherer for the colony. She is shape-shifting, telepathic, and has lesbian tendencies. This was, I thought, a very original slant on myths and legends. The other thing that impressed me was the great visuals, atmosphere, and make-up effects. Rya Kihlstedt, who was topless through the entire film, was the best looking mermaid effect I have yet seen in a film. Yes, it is a gore monster movie, but with some very strong elements. C+.

"Story of O: episode 3"
Story of O, episode 3. (1992 TV) has generated several requests after my trial of episodes 1 and 2, so I will finish the series over the next couple of weeks. In this episode, O is taken to the dungeon for the most intense part of her training, where she is kept in constant light, and whipped and screwed day and night, to the point where she loses track of time, and of who she has been with. Near the end of the episode, she leaves the Chateau, and returns home with Renee, where we see her in a good light in a more normal set, yielding the best looking images of Claudia Cepeda to date. She shows breasts, buns and full frontal, as do a host of unidentified women with her in the chateau. At the end of this episode, she meets Jacqueline for the first time, so we should be getting more identified nudity and possibly some girl-girl soon.

Scoop is taking a little time off to spend with the family. But for now....
Here are the latest movie reviews available at scoopy.com.
- The yellow asterisks indicate that I wrote the review, and am deluded
into thinking it includes humor.
- If there is a white asterisk, it means that I inexplicably determined
there might be something of interest.
- A blue asterisk indicates the review is written by Tuna (or Lawdog or
Junior or C2000 or Realist or ICMS or somebody else besides me)
- If there is no asterisk, I wrote it, but am too ashamed to admit it.

Nude Spanish Babes
|
A few days ago we ran some images of Spanish models that posed nude for Greenpeace. With a little help from C2000, here are 52 more! A few of them appeared the first time, but the other 40 or so are brand new to us! Personally I think Greenpeace has finally found a great way to raise money and awarness...sell calendars and magazines with nudie pics of hot babes! Of course I'm sure they'd probaby screw it up by using recycled paper and non-toxic ink. Damn hippies.

Pat's comments in yellow...
Not much news today, but here are a few things of interest. First up, something unutterably creepy from IMDB News...
Renee's Number One
Actress Renée Zellweger is number one in the music charts - as the subject
of Ariel Horovitz' hit song! The singer/songwriter is currently at the top
of the Israeli single charts with his ode to the Bridget Jones's Diary
beauty.
The lyrics are, "I was at an American movie and fell in love with
the actress/My love still doesn't suspect that I, determined by inevitable
fate, am closing the distance and I have an address and a picture/Renée,
your life will change from one end to another because I'm on my
way/Restaurant, black dress, confusing cleavage - good thing I prepared the
speech back in Israel./Touch me, Renée, look - I'm not made of
plastic./You'll have a real life with me."
Zellweger is not the first star to hit the pop charts like this in recent years. Popster Bree Sharp hit the American charts in the '90s with an ode to David Duchovny
And this from Ananova. It's not about celebrities, but I think you'll want
to see it, if nothing else, then just for the pictures...
National Cleavage Day!
Finally, this from MSNBC may be of more interest to you than to the
readers. I find its conclusions very hard to believe. At first, I thought it was an April Fool story...

Study finds Web surfers seek business, travel sites
ASSOCIATED PRESS
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., April 1 - People using Internet search engines are less
interested in sex sites and more interested in business, travel and jobs
than they were five years ago, according to a study led by a Penn State
University researcher.
IN MAY 1997, 16.8 percent of searches on the Excite search engine were for
sex-related or pornographic Web sites. By May 2001, that percentage had
dropped almost in half to 8.5 percent, according to an article in the March
edition of IEEE Computer, a journal of the Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers.
During the same period, searches related to commerce, travel, employment
and the economy rose from 13.3 percent in 1997 to 24.7 percent in 2001.
But a researcher not involved in the study said the ever-changing patterns
of Internet usage makes it hard to interpret much from the data.
John Morrison, a researcher and instructor at Rollins College in Winter
Park, Fla., agreed with researchers that demographic changes in Internet
users have played a role in the decline. But, he also said that people
looking for pornography today are more likely to go to newsgroups than to a
search engine.
Amanda Spink, associate professor of information sciences and technology at
Penn State and the lead author of the study, said the nature of the
Internet and in its users are changing.
"The content of the Web from 1997 has shifted heavily toward commerce
sites," Spink said. "Also, the nature of people who search the Web has
changed. In '97, you probably had a higher proportion of university people,
of young guys who knew about computers. Now you have more the average
person, and the average person may not be as interested in sex and
pornography."
Morrison, however, said the proliferation of search engines over the study
period - only a handful existed in 1997, compared to more than 3,500 now -
complicates the data.
"Instead of going to one place, Excite, for everything, people are
spreading out, becoming more intelligent, and using certain search engines
for certain things and certain search engines for something else," Morrison
said. "The nature of the search engines, themselves, has changed, so it's
hard to do any research."
Despite the drop indicated in the study, researchers found online interest
in sex remains strong. Searches for sex and pornography sites outnumbered
those for education, government and the fine arts combined. And despite the
relative decrease compared to business sites, the overall growth of the
Internet means there probably were more total searches for sex sites in the
2001 data.
The study also indicates that people who use search engines are spending
less time on them, with more than half going no further than the first set
of 20 search results.
Spink said improvements in search engines have sometimes made it
unnecessary to go past the first set of results. But she also questions
whether people new to the Internet are prepared for the volume of
information a simple search can return.
Spink was joined by Bernard J. Jansen, of the U.S. Army War College in
Carlisle; Dietmar Wolfram, of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; and
Tefko Saracevic, of Rutgers University.
