"Sid & Nancy" (1986)
Sid & Nancy (1986) is the story of Sex Pistols bass player Sid Viscous and his girlfriend, groupie Nancy Spungen, and their decent into heroine addiction. Brilliantly acted by Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb, it is nonetheless a thoroughly depressing film, and gives little insight into the personalities of Sid and Nancy. It answers the question of what they were, but not why they were that way.
Maltin praises the same points as I do, and awards 3 stars. Ebert adores the film and awards 4 stars. IMDB readers agree with Maltin at 7.0/10. Chloe won a couple of minor best actress awards for her performance. Chloe shows her breasts in a fairly long argument scene in bed. I do not enjoy
this film, and even fast forwarded through it this time, but I do appreciate it. I will give it a C+

New DVD
I looked at The Misadventures of Margaret. Fluff comedy about a romance writer, in which her own life is intercut with her creations, ala Romancing the Stone. Parker Posey topless. The review online is Tuna's. I have nothing much to add. A pleasant enough film of its type. I suspect most of you don't like that type, as it is the female-oriented "career girl in New York" stories that were so popular in the 30's and 40's. Parker does a good job, and the script is not without wit.
I looked at Circus. I believe it is now required by law for every British movie to feature violent and somewhat inept gangsters involved in convoluted double crosses while cracking cruel jokes. This movie was absolutely raped by the critics in the U.K., but I though it was watchable, albeit incredibly confusing. I couldn't really follow it, but some scenes were fun to watch. Plenty of male behinds from some pretty famous actors, but very little from the distaff side.
