Blood
Orange
(2016)
Blood
Orange is a thriller in
which a former big-name
rocker Bill (Iggy Pop)
is living his final days
in a Spanish villa with
his much younger wife
Isabelle (Kacey
Barnfield), and is
planning to kill himself
at the end of the month.
Nothing much happens at
the house. Bill, who's
virtually blind, spends
the day shooting at
rabbits and playing
music while Isabelle
spends her time swimming
and sunbathing naked.
Their only human contact
is from the pool boy
David (Antonio Magro)
with Isabelle gently
teasing him when she's
not having sex with him.
Their world is about to
be rocked when Lucas
(Ben Lamb), Isabelle's
former step-son and
lover, arrives at the
villa wanting his
inheritance that will
entirely go to Isabelle.
Bill calms him down by
offering a compromise of
sorts, but Lucas wants
all that is owed to him.
When he sees that
Isabelle is having sex
with David, Lucas sets
up his own plan of
revenge against
Isabelle, but the plan
backfires big time and
sets off a chain of
events that may end
badly for all involved
or maybe it will end
perfectly.
Slow burn thriller that
works surprisingly well
with its limitations. It
helps that it is only 80
minutes long. All four
actors are quite good,
particularly Iggy Pop,
who plays his dying
character with a
matter-of-fact attitude
which works well
particularly when things
go badly. Not a bad
little watch...
