"Frankenhooker",
from Tuna
Sometimes you just have
to return to the classics. "Battleship
Potemkin" was out of stock at Blockbuster,
so Tuna did "Frankenhooker" and
"Bound and Gagged".
"Frankenhooker"
is a comedy-gore flick in the general line that
leads from "American Werewolf in
London" to "Idle Hands". Of
course, both of those films have good production
values, capable directors, and good casts.
"Frankenhooker" was produced for about
five bucks, including salaries. It was directed
by Frank Henenlotter, director of "Basket
Case", a noted grade-z legend, and Joe Bob
Briggs' all-time favorite movie.
Our hero loses his girl
to a freak lawnmower accident. I think she was
trying to wave down Richard Farnsworth, but he
just couldn't stop. Anyway, if this happened to
you or me, we would have to find ways to deal
with our grief, but we're not eccentric amoral
electricians who can become geniuses when we
drill into our brains. He is. So he decides that
he has the technology to rebuild the girl. He
steals her head from the police lab. He creates
some superdrugs, gets some ho's to use them, the
ho's explode, and he uses the scattered body
parts to build his Frankenhooker. Etc.

"Bound
and Gagged", from Tuna
I have never seen a
thorough capping job on this film, either.
Tuna's comments on this film: "Bound
& Gagged: A Love Story" is Ginger Lynn
Allen's first attempt at mainstream film. It is a
sort of Thelma and Louise road movie. Ginger has
an abusive husband and a woman lover. The woman
decides to kidnap Ginger and take her to be
"de-programmed." A male friend who
caught his wife cheating and attempted suicide
accompanies them. For me, this film didn't quite
work. The acting was fine, and the plot seemed
promising, but I don't think they ever quite
decided if they were making a comedy or action
movie. There was not a lot of action, and they
telegraphed all of the jokes. None of the
characters were really likeable either. All in
all, it was a near miss."
