"Extra-Marital", from Tuna
Sometimes you just have
to return to the classics. Unfortunately,
"Grand Illusion" and "The Bicycle
Thief" were both out of stock at Blockbuster
yesterday, so Tuna did "Extramarital"
and "The Adult Version of Jekyll and
Hide".
"Extramarital"
was a made-for-HBO flick starring Tracy Lords as
an aspiring journalist investigating the murder
of her best friend. The trail leads in some
surprising directions.

Jekyll and Hide", from Tuna
Really, really thorough
job from Tuna. Possibly never capped before (??).
Definitely never on DVD before, because today is
the release day!
Tuna's comments:
"Jekyll is a slimeball doctor who is
screwing his nurse to kill time before his
engagement party. His fiancee surprises him for
lunch and drags him to an antique shop. He finds
Dr. Jekyll's journal, and comes back that night
to buy it. When the owner won't sell, he kills
him for the book. Following the formula in the
book, he concocts the potion which will turn him
into his evil alter ego, which turns out to be a
big, bad, busty, beautiful blonde. The film
contains both soft-core and violence, which is an
unusual combination for the time (1972) as there
were still film review boards, and each theater
chain (like Pussycat) also had their own
censorship board. They would forgive soft core
sex on the grounds that there was no violence,
and would forgive violence on the grounds that at
least there was no sex. We are treated to a
severe whipping, a hot poker being inserted in a
woman, a penis being severed, both male and
female full frontal, and lots of simulated sex.
The production qualities are good in the original
film, and the DVD is reasonable quality (created
from the original interneg). There is also a
feature length commentary full of information
about the days of the soft-core, before the
advent of hard-core films. The highlight of the
film is probably lengthy exposure by the popular
Rene Bond (unfortunately post boob job) as the
promiscuous nurse."
