Dawn
Patrol
(2014)
Johnny's
comments:
Dawn
Patrol is a thriller where
John (Scott Eastwood)
tells his story while
being forced held at
gunpoint by a Muslim
woman, possibly in
Afghanistan. In 2008, John
and his surfing star
brother Ben (Chris Brochu)
are just getting by living
with their mother and
father (Rita Wilson and
Jeff Fahey) while their
friends around them are
losing their homes and if
it's not that, the
Mexicans are taking over.
Ben sees his ex-girlfriend
Donna (Kim Matula) moving
on with a Mexican boy,
Miguel and loses it, then
promises to Donna that he
will marry her before her
father gets home from
Afghanistan. Meanwhile,
John beats up Miguel who
may or may not have gang
connections. A few
mornings later, John sees
Miguel's car drive off and
then finds Ben shot dead
on the beach. Vowing
revenge, John gets Donna
to get Miguel to meet up
with her, where John
ambushes him and kills
him. But, all is not what
it seems and Miguel's
death sets off a series of
cataclysmic events that
will affect all of their
lives.
Very poor B-thriller that
actually has a decent
ending, but that's about
it as the plot is
completely preposterous
and a number of scenes are
just plain laughable. The
conceit of John telling
his story to a 'Muslim
woman' is so badly handled
that it's reveal is just
another poor spot in the
movie. Eastwood sure looks
like his father, but has
none of his charisma, in
fact before Ben's death,
he plays second fiddle to
Ben and it feels like the
movie is about Ben, which
is just another problem to
add to the list. To be
honest, I don't think I've
seen a new release movie
this bad in a while, but
at least you can say
there's some good nudity
from The Bold and the
Beautiful's Kim Matula.)
