Jilted is a drama in which Al (Richard Moir) works as a chef in a restaurant on an island resort owned by Bob (Steve Jacobs) and resents every minute of it because he thinks he's the best chef in the country. He wastes the time by playing around with waitress Cindy (Helen Mutkins) who came to the island on holiday 8 months earlier only to be dumped, and she never left. Then Harry (Jennifer Cluff) arrives and Al is immediately intrigued by her but she just wants to be left alone as she just left her husband. After a while, she succumbs to Al and they begin sleeping with one another. Also at the restaurant is Paula (Tina Bursill), who runs the place and like the others she is stuck there, but is hoping the play she is writing is her ticket out. Paula bonds with Cindy over their hatred of men despite earlier tension. Harry and Al seem to be going fine, so much so that Al tells her he gave up a job at a prestigious restaurant to stay with her. Then Harry's ex, Doug (Ken Radley), arrives and things become complicated.

Thirty-something adult drama that's pretty uninteresting. All the characters seem to be stuck working at the world's worst restaurant yet little is made of this, just lots of relationship stuff that's familiar. Harry seems interesting until she inevitably falls for Al and there's a bizarre obsession with her short haircut.  I prefer Bennett's 90s/00s genre movies like Kiss Or Kill or his Hollywood movies Tempted or Two If By Sea.

The movie was capped off a VHS rip so the quality is not great but perfectly watchable. It has a line a little too high up from the bottom throughout, which is annoying, but doesn't make it unwatchable. Unfortunately, the movie will probably get an upgrade any time soon. Bill Bennett's 80s movies are all fairly small and mostly forgotten because they are of such narrow focus that only completists could be interested in them. They were low budget niche movies barely seen by anyone and lucky to be released in some cases. Jilted is no exception.
