Money Train (1995) is a nearly universally hated action film staring Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson, and Jennifer Lopez as New York transit authority cops. Snipes and Harrelson are step brothers, partners and best friends. Harrelson has a gambling and a drinking problem. Both are talented cops, and Lopez proves to be equally talented. Woody falls for her, but she is more interested in Snipes. In fact, she shows her breasts in a love scene with him.

Woody is in deep trouble over his gambling debts, and all three hate Captain Patterson (Robert Blake), who is in charge of the Money Train -- the train that carries the days transit receipts, which is frequently several million dollars. Harrelson becomes increasingly interested in robbing the money train to pay off his gambling debts, get even with Patterson, and start over in a tropical paradise.

Maltin says 2 stars, Berardinelli says 1/2 star, and Ebert says 1 1/2. IMDB readers have it at 1 1/2. IMDB readers say 5.1/10. With my apologies to the experts, I was entertained by this film, mainly due to the three major characters. Harrelson and Snipes have definite chemistry, and Lopes was wonderful as an Hispanic cop with an attitude. C.

Sweet Justice (1992) is a remake of The 7 Samurai, and a pretty good one. It stars Finn Carter as Sunny Justice, kick boxer and gym owner. As the film opens, she is beating the crap out of her boyfriend in the ring. Turns out he wanted to know who was the best, and found out that night. Her estranged sister, Cheryl Paris stayed in their home town, got elected to the city council, married then divorced Sunny's first love who is now sheriff, and became involved with a crook who is trying to make a mint off of the small town. The bad guy is played to perfection by Frank Gorshin, and Mickey Rooney has a small part as a sporting goods store owner.

Sunny's sister tries to break off her involvement with Gorshin when he starts poisoning the water table, and ends up dead of a dog attack. Sunny reassembles her old special forces unit, all women, to get revenge and clean up the town. The unit includes:

Catherine Hickland as her trainer.Marjean Holden as a sensai. Kathleen Kinmont as a lawyer. Michelle McCormick as a dancer. Patricia Tallman as a shit-kicker bar owner.

The seventh warrior is Paris' boyfriend. When he joins, just in case there is some viewer who hasn't figured out that this is a modern version of the 7 Samurai, one of the girls says, "seven, magnificent." So we have a group of warriors who come in to save a small town from the crooks. They do, but not without paying a price.

This is a pretty much unknown film. It is far better than the 4.1/10 that 13 IMDB voters have given it. The art direction and lighting are very good, and the performances are also not bad. The ending came as a total surprise to me. The film spawned a TV series. Don't read the one comment at IMDB. He liked the film because it has a lot of women beating up men, but wrote a complete spoiler. I give this a strong C+.

I had, in fact, misidentified all three women in the spa. Part of the reason ID was so difficult was that Hickland had a different ear ring on each ear, a simple loop on one ear, and an iron cross on the other. Further, there is a confusing continuity problem. Most of the scene was shot from one side, facing Kinmont and Carter. We see Hickland from the back with this camera angle. She has wisps of hair hanging down the sides of her face. Then, there is a single shot from the opposite side of the pool of Hickland, and the wisps of hair are missing. Not only that, but the hair looks to be a very different color, possibly because of lighting. Tallman, in fact, had no real exposure, but did have some pokies which I included in the new image set.

Country star Dolly Parton's cousin Julia Parton is set to reveal all in her autobiography Saving Jezebel. The book is expected to cover everything from Julia's times at high school to her life as an erotic dancer, magazine publisher, photographer and porn star. Julia who is jealous of her cousin's success said, "Dolly's made millions out of the size of her boobs. I'm just trying to make a career out of my body too." The porn star's secrets are expected to hurt Dolly who is set to make a comeback playing Mae West in a new movie. A Hollywood source said, "This book could really upset Dolly. The last thing she wants is someone raking all this up again."

John Travolta has been offered a whopping great $700,000 to appear at a convention celebrating his turkey of a movie, Battlefield Earth. Fans will see a director's cut and enjoy a sci-fi ball at the convention in England. Battlefield Earth Clan spokeswoman Andrea Henry says, "We really would love John to come over for this. We've spoken to John's manager and we're awaiting a response. I know the movie had bad press, but it really has become a cult piece of cinema in a few people's eyes." The offer was made by a millionaire fan who belongs to the group that adores the movie because of its atrociousness.
