This film was lensed in
2005 and was scheduled
to be released in 2007.
Many people felt it
would be an Oscar
candidate, and Martin
Scorsese declared it a
masterpiece.
Unfortunately, it became
the subject of bitter
litigation between the
producers and the
director, Kenneth
Lonergan. Lonergan was
contractually required
to create a film with a
running time less than
150 minutes, but could
not figure out how to do
so. He was given final
cut, but only if he
could comply with the
150-minute clause in his
contract. When he failed
to produce a short
enough version, the
studio hired other
people to take the
footage and produce a
marketable movie.
Lawsuits and
counter-suits followed (story
here), and the
film languished in
distribution purgatory.
One of the things we
missed because of the
legal wrangling was Anna
Paquin's first nude
scene. She was 22 or 23
at the time, and was
playing a high school
girl.
The film is finally set
to be released in two
versions on Blu-Ray July
10th, one of which
fulfills Lonergan's
legal requirements (it's
exactly 150 minutes),
the other of which is
the longer version
Lonergan wants us to
see. (Blu-Ray
info) As of this
minute, the shorter
version is floating
around the internet, but
I haven't seen any sign
of the full-length
version yet.
These caps and clips
are not mine, although I
do plan to look at this
film when I get a
chance. I've decided to
wait two weeks so I can
see the longer version
in Blu-Ray quality.
These clips are from the
shorter version and are
perhaps a bit below DVD
quality, but you're
still gonna like 'em!
DeepAtSea did the clips.

Here is
Defoe's
original clip
of Salma
Hayek's
striptease in
Americano.
The quality is
a bit nicer
than the one I
linked from
OtherCrap.com,
and it does
not have the
watermark.
Although
the nudity is
more
suggestion
than delivery,
it is still a
must-see.
