Chained Heat
(1983)
Chained Heat (1983) was one of the last great exploitation
classics, WIP division, and is one of the best of the genre.
Unfortunately, it has gotten chopped in every DVD release to date.
Specifically, there is a heavily cut rape scene with Dean Wormer and
star Linda Blair, and some lesbian content seems to be missing from
the shower scene. Frankly, if we didn't know about the missing
footage, we would never miss it, because even in the edited version
it is a WIP classic.
Linda is a "new fish" being transported with several other women,
having been convicted of murder based on a traffic accident. This
has put a damper on her interior design classes, and she is having
self-esteem trouble. She makes friends with Sharon Hughes, who
promises to teach her prison survival skills. The warden, Dean
Wormer, and his stooges are having a problem. Someone is cutting
into his drug trafficking, which is getting in the way of his
boffing and taping the inmates. He has pressed Monique Gabrielle
into service as a snitch. The rival gang is led by the captain of
the guard, Stella Stevens, who sells drugs to inmates, and pimps
inmates to private parties. Prisoner Sybil Danning leads the white
prisoners and works with Stevens, while doing battle with the black
faction led by Tamara Dobson. This is the world Linda Blair timidly
enters, but she finds she must get tough to survive.
Sybil Danning and Linda Blair show breasts in a shower scene.
Many other women do full frontal and rear in the same shower scene.
Sharon Hughes also shows breasts in the shower scene, as well as in
a Jacuzzi with Dean Wormer. Monique Gabrielle does full frontal and
rear with Dean Wormer.
IMDb readers say 3.5, and LInda Blair received a Razzie
nomination for Worst Actress, while Sybil Danning won for Worst
supporting actress. I am completely unable to explain this score or
the Razzies. Danning was perfect, Blair was adequate, and this is an
excellent WIP classic. I can only assume that in 1983, mainstream
audiences had no interest in exploitation. The film holds up well
and is a quick watch.
This is a C+.

Das Wilde Leben
The film focuses on the life of Uschi Obermaier, the icon of the 1968 movement in Germany and groupie. At the age of 16, Uschi is bored by her job in a photo lab, but soon becomes the "it girl" of Munich's club scene. When she gets to know Rainer Langhans, they move to Berlin and live in "Kommune 1", the first politically-motivated commune in Germany. While the other occupants claim she isn't political enough, Uschi just wants to have fun. She starts working as a fashion model and has affairs with people like Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones.
Here are a great number of captures from the movie, Natalia Avelon is a hottie, and so was the real Uschi Obermaier
(there are some captures from her too). Uschi lives now in Santa Monica and is a Jewel designer.
Scoop's note: tons of film clips in yesterday's
edition.

Apocalypto
You won't care if you don't speak Maya (and who does?), because you'll
quickly forget the sub-titles, and become totally engrossed in this
wonderfully done 2006 action/adventure. Director Mel Gibson and crew
deserve all the nominations and awards that this movie got. It is
excellent.
Set during the time of the decline of the Mayan kingdom, a tribe of
hunter-gatherers is attacked by a Mayan war party intent on capturing
slaves and victims for sacrifice. They destroy the village, and kill
everyone they feel unsuitable for capture, but one of the men, Jaguar Paw,
manages to hide his wife and child in a deep hole before being taken away.
The film then follows Jaguar Paw's experiences during captivity, and
his wife's struggles to free herself from the hole.
This movie is just fantastic, entertaining from beginning to end.
