"Garage Days"

Garage Days (2002) is an Australian film that focuses on a Sidney rock band fighting for their big break, which they decide means landing the right agent. Several of the group are less than faithful about whom they sleep with, and one members girlfriend ends up pregnant. Another is a big doper. All have dead end day jobs. The key to whether or not you will enjoy this film is how much you enjoy spending time with the main characters. It was made on a shoe string budget of only $6M, but looks very good.

Natalie Jane, as a stripper, shows breasts and buns. The credits list a body double/stripper for her, but I believe the stripper was used for full speed pole work, and all the images below are really Jane. Pia Maranda, as the bass player, shows a breast in a sex scene. Yvette Duncan shows breasts after bathing in red dye #2.

IMDb readers have this at 5.7 of 10. Ebert mentioned correctly that this film is really more about the scene than about this particular band, but enjoyed it and awarded 3 stars. Throughout the entire film, we never get to hear the band play. Unfortunately, the DVD packaging ruins the surprise ending. However, as the film is really more about the scene than about the band, that is not too serious a problem. This is a C+. If it is your kind of film, it will be a fast 105 minutes.

    Taking Lives (2004):

    I already reviewed this in depth, and spoiled it (since the explanation made no freakin' sense). Here is the comments page.

    The point of bringing it up again here is that the unrated DVD includes a longer version of the Jolie-Hawke sex scene. These clips are available in .avi format only (need latest version of DIVx). Tuna and I will have DVD collages soon.

    • Part 1 - same as in the rated version, but this is much clearer and superior quality to previous clips. avi zip, wmv zip

    • Part 2 - just a quick, but clear close-up shot of Jolie's chest. avi-zip, wmv-zip

    • Part 3 - a somewhat longer and much clearer version of Hawke mounting Jolie on the table avi-zip, wmv-zip

    • Part 4 - this is all new material which you have not seen. Hawke carries Jolie to the bed, throws her down (breasts clearly visible), and mounts her. Although this is supposed to be "unrated" material, it is a tame, bullshit sex scene since Hawke leaves all of his clothes on and pretends to take the ol' wienerwald out of his zipper instead of actually removing his pants. (If you want to see a great Jolie sex scene, rent Original Sin and check out Jolie and Banderas - now THAT was good fuckin' (avi-zip, wmv-zip)

    These collages are made from the video clips, not from the original source. (They aren't so very bad, but the DVD will kick ass in comparison.)

    NOTE: because of a unique combination of circumstances with the Windows media player and some substantial bandwidth theft, we will have to do all of our movie files in zip format. Left click on the files as you normally would to view a picture. When you get a choice, click on "save", and put it on your hard drive in the directory of your choice. UnZIP and play from there.

    I know this is not especially convenient, but it allows the film clips to continue. I can protect .zip files from hot-linking in the same way I can protect still images. For some reason, if I protect .avis and .wmvs from hot-linking, they will not play in the Windows media player, and I can't get a satisfactory work-around. Perhaps I will find a better solution, but for now this new policy allows you to continue getting the movie clips you want to see, which is much preferable to my abandoning the clips altogether.

    FYI when I hypercam vids to make the file size smaller I use DivX MPEG-4 Fast-Motion for the video compressor, then I use virtualdub to compress the audio. The properties for the vids says the video codec:  DivX Decoder Filter & audio codec:  Morgan Stream Switcher which I'm not familiar with. When I compress the audio with virtualdub I use MPEG Layer-3.  A friend of mine told me about compressing the audio about (6) mos. ago. Like I said previously, only been capping for a year & a half & I'm no expert. Hopefully this info will help members with the proper codecs for my vids.
     
    When I cap big brother's I use hypercam mostly & sdp & asfrecorder if the set up allows me. I stopped using camtasia cause the file sizes were always too big, could never figure out the process, over my head lol, plus it cost too much to buy in my opinion.

    I made the .wmv versions of each video. The codecs for these: Windows Video V8, Windows Audio 9. The upside of these is that you know the codecs, and they'll play in the Windows Media Player. The downside is that they are slightly larger, and slightly lower quality.

    "Secret Weapons" aka Sexpionage (1985) DVD
    Hopelessly dated espionage tv movie about young Soviet women being trained to seduce American operatives. The highlight is when Linda Hamilton is forced to strip and then the rest of the female recruits afterwards. However the original R-rated cable release titled "Sexpionage" showed the Canadian extras baring their breasts but the DVD release is only PG-rated.

    "The Reincarnate" (1971)
    Horror film about satanism which means an obligatory naked young female virgin is sacrificed. Stars Trudy Young who was a popular young actress in Canada during the 1960s.

    "Jigsaw" (1999) DVD
    Grade-D direct-to-video whose only saving grace is it stars former MuchMusic VJ Erica Ehm in the raw.

    Crimson Ghost

    Today from the Ghost...video clips of "xXx" co-star Asia Argento looking great and baring all in several scenes from "B. Monkey" (1998). Scoop summed it up best in his review...it's basically a Euro-version of "True Romance".

    "The Human Stain"
    Movies with a shock surprise ending are great, but this 2003 drama/romance takes a slow road getting there, so will probably be most liked by viewers who like deep plodding character analysis.

    A well respected college professor with 35 years on the job is forced to retire when he innocently uses a word which upsets the politically correct crowd. His wife is so upset by this that she throws a brain aneurysm and dies.

    Now bitter and alone, the professor takes up with a much younger woman whose life is a mess, and is being stalked by her ex-husband, who blames her for the death of their children.

    At the very end, things come to a climax and a shocking secret about the professor is revealed. It takes a long time to get there, but overall not a bad movie if you can stand the pace, and some brief but nice nudity by both Nicole Kidman and Jacinda Barrett make it a little more interesting.
