Breath is a drama in which two teenage friends Pikelet (Samson Coulter) and Loonie (Ben Spence) get up to a whole heap of trouble, mostly because of Loonie, hence the name. They both decide to take up surfing while looking for a new thrill and come across Sando (Simon Baker, also director), a mysterious bloke who let's them leave their surfboards at his place because it's closer than their homes. Sando lives with an American woman Eva (Elizabeth Debicki), who has a withered leg thanks to an accident and generally leaves them alone while Sando challenges the boys to go for bigger waves. Sando leaves from time to time to find himself/get up to trouble and this time he takes Loonie with him, leaving Pikelet behind where he connects with the lonely Eva and they begin a torrid affair and maybe he'll find himself in a way he can't through surfing. Pretty decent movie that's all about mood than plot with a lot of deep introspection as is typical of Tim Winton book. Also Breath has quite a lot of surfing scenes which also helps in setting the mood and developing the teen character. While it takes an odd turn when Pikelet and Eva have an affair, it doesn't derail the movie but it definitely takes the movie into some weird areas.
