"Frankenstein 90"

Frankenstein 90 (1984) I was expecting yet another Euro-Horror film (this week's releases are mostly horror genre) and got a very pleasant surprise. This film is actually a very enjoyable romantic comedy take on the Frankenstein story. Victor Frankenstein (Jean Rochefort) is a professor who is secretly working on his ancestors' work. He has been stealing body parts from girlfriend Fiona Gélin's government research lab, and is short only a head, which the lab is not allowed to have. Someone sells him a head, and he creates Frank (Eddy Mitchell). Frank is cultured, large, very strong, has impeccable manners, and has no idea of right and wrong. Things begin to get difficult when Frank sees Victor and his girlfriend Elizabeth having sex. First he tries "cuddling" the maid, and crunches her, leaving a corpse to hide. Later, Frank is bothered by the man that sold the head to Victor, and does him in.

Things come to a head when Frank grabs Gelin through an open window, and decides to "cuddle" with her. Once she gets over her rage at Victor for not being honest with her about Frank, the three of them decide they need to make a companion for Frank. They go to a nightclub and shop for what interests Frank in a woman. Finally Victor explains that the ideal woman would have the face of one girl, the breasts of another, and the buns of a third. Next day, Frank shows up with a meat truck, and the three women are hanging dead inside. Victor decides it is time to go to the police, but they don't believe him, so they set about making Adelaide (Herma Vos). I won't spoil any more of the plot. Vos shows everything, including full frontal, in clear light. Gélin shows breasts in bed with Victor, and again outside when Frank is trying to force himself on her. Several unidentified showgirls show breasts and buns in thongs.

IMDB readers have this at 7.1 out of 10, and it won Best Actor and Best Screenplay at Fantasporto. I enjoyed it immensely. For those who hate French romantic comedy, don't worry, this is not typical. For those who don't like horror, don't worry, that is not what this is about. Unless you can't stand subtitles, you will enjoy this film. B-.

    "Werewolf Shadow"

    Werewolf Shadow (1971) is the first film from Paul Naschy. As a young man, Frankenstein vs. the Wolfman with Lon Chaney made a lasting impression on him, and probably caused him to write this script. He had no idea at the time that he would appear in the film. Perhaps a more fitting title would be Wolfman vs. the Vampire, because that, and a little romance, explains the plot pretty well. Two college girls, Gaby Fuchs and Barbara Capell, travel to a remote village to research their thesis. Along the way, they get lost, and meet none other but Paul Naschy, who invites them to stay at his place. The next day, they find the tomb they were looking for, and in it the legendary vampire witch they were seeking with a silver cross in her chest. Hint for grave robbers: when you find a vampire with a silver cross in her heart, leave it there. So the vampire and tool of Satan is back on the loose after centuries. Meanwhile, each full moon Naschy becomes a werewolf, but is kept in check (actually chains) by his rather weird sister.

    The vampire gets Capell, who shows breasts when attacked earlier by the sister, and Fuchs and Naschy get intimate. In a final showdown, will Naschy defeat the Vampire? Will Fuchs find true love with him? I will leave it to you to find out. Fuchs shows breasts in bed with Naschy. In the opening, we see an ancient ceremony where a virgin is sacrificed to Satan. The anonymous virgin is nude on an altar, but we only see her breasts.

    This is one of the more entertaining IMDB entries. They list possible titles of The Werewolf Versus Vampire Women (their preferred), La Noche de Walpurgis (Correct original title) Blood Moon , Nacht der Vampire (West Germany), Shadow of the Werewolf and The Werewolf's Shadow. The actual title of this release, Werewolf Shadow, is not listed as a possibility. However, at the top of the page, is an image of the package with the correct title. One reviewer wrote a lengthy scathing review, and was so proud of it that he submitted it three times with different short titles, and IMDB has it all three times. This is the first time this Uncut version has been seen in the US. IMDB readers have it at 4.3 of 10. The most common complaint is pace. The DVD is flawless, and the cinematography is very nice, with great framing and composition. It has the same special features as its companion release, Curse of the Devil. This is a C+.

    Vice President Dick Cheney will be in town on Wednesday morning, August 7th, for a speech to the Commonwealth Club. It'll be interesting to see if he can continue to duck the press on questions about Halliburton. The folks at Global Exchange are organizing a humorous protest at his arrival, Wednesday morning.  Here are the details:

    Scoop's note: this appears to be another example of the dreaded new phenomenon - the talking mime. Either that or he's going to answer questions with hand shadow. Although now that I think about it, this solves the mystery of why we never hear Cheney's voice. Turns out he's not dead, he's a mime. That also explains the white socks.

    Today, a trip back in time to 1965 to a flick called "Satan's Bed". A strange movie in that it was actually 2 movies rolled into one. The other part had Yoko Ono as it's main attraction, no I didn't cap her (just plain unattractive). Instead, I give you an unknown brunette. First in the shower (a little skin) then being attacked by a trio of bad apples.

    There is also another unknown tied up on a pool table. My "Babe in Bondage for the day.

    My point to all of this...just to show you how good we have it in this day and age. Back in 1965 we sat through garbage like this just to catch a flash of skin.

    Excellent, and very thorough coverage of Ashley Judd's nudity in the made for cable bio-pic, "Norma Jean & Marilyn" (1996). Breasts are visible in almost every image. Partial bum can be seen in links 9,11,12 and 16. And link #8 has a brief flash of pubes. Great job by Aesthete!

    Thanks to everyone who helped us out with the Mini-Me/Jolene Blalock question about her appearance in the bunny mag. The issue was April, 2002 -the one with former teen singer Tiffany on the cover. Blalock wasn't even close to being nude, and all the email I read yesterday said the same thing...she has shown much more skin in assorted FH-Max-Stuff layouts.
