Camille 2000
  • Camille 2000 is yet another of those Radley Metzger films from the late 60's and early 70's. Scoopy once referred to him as the world's most stylish softcore director, but I'm not sure that's correct. I think he may have thought he was making real movies. In a sense, he reminds me of Fellini, constantly obsessed with the lifestyles of the rich and decadent. He didn't have Fellini's talent, but I think he was striving in the same direction. Looking back on them now, the greattest difference seems to be that Fellini's films are more in the nature of universal art, while Metzger's seem stylistically and philosophically trapped in their era.
  • Perhaps the other difference is a matter of focus. Fellini's films don't focus on sex, although they sometimes contain sex and nudity. Metzger focuses in on the sex lives of the rich as the ultimate symbol of their superficiality. There is suprisingly little flesh in this movie, considering that it is remembered as a sex movie. I suppose it was when measured in the context of its time, but I'm too young to identify the mood of that time. I regret to say that the caps are not as crisp as I hoped them to be.   • Silvana Venturelli. In discussing my caps from Lickerish Quartet, Scoopy mentioned that she may be the most beautiful woman ever to do softcore movies. I don't know about that, but she is stunning and totally Scandinavian looking, although I suppose she must be Italian based upon her name.
