Cam2Cam
(2014)
Cam2Cam
is a Bangkok-based
thriller that begins with
Lucy (Jade Tailor) being
humiliated and brutally
murdered by Russell
(Russell Geoffrey Banks),
who in turn kills himself
when confronted by police.
Meanwhile, Lucy's sister
Allie (Tammin Sursok) has
arrived in Bangkok to find
out what happened to her
and to find her missing
head. She arrives at the
apartment complex where
Lucy was murdered and
finds a group of foreign
nationals living there in
what looks like a
tight-knit group. One of
the girls, Marit (Sarah
Bonrapaux), gives Allie a
tour around the local area
and then introduces her to
a webcam sex site Cam2Cam,
which Lucy was using
before she dies. After
Allie takes a look at the
site, strange things
happen, including the
disappearance of Marit,
but Allie is desperate to
find out about her sister
and she's about to find
out that the members of
the tight-knit group are
very much involved in
Lucy's murder.
Disappointing movie that
has an interesting idea
about someone manipulating
others, but wastes it on
cheap and unsatisfying
thrills and a deeply
unsatisfying ending. The
opening scene of the movie
is far too long and drags
out to a third of the
movie. Allie's desperation
becomes quite laughable
during one sequence that
involves her running
around the streets of
Bangkok with a tomahawk
and nobody giving a shit.
Maybe that's a regular
occurrence in Bangkok, I
don't know.
Just a word of warning,
even though the movie is
in 1080HD, the quality is
quite appalling. I don't
even know if it's meant to
be like that or it was
poorly encoded, which I
assume is the reason, but
it's as bad as I've ever
seen. It doesn't help that
the colours are very drab
throughout. It's still
very watchable, but some
sections looks like it's
been rotoscoped. Ah
well...
