"An American Werewolf in London" (1981)

An American Werewolf in London (1981) is a John Landis Horror/Comedy staring David Naughton as the American tourist turned werewolf, and Jenny Agutter as the nurse who loves him. Naughton and a friend are attacked outside a small town in the North of England. The friend is killed, and Naughton wakes up in a London hospital. His friend appears to him and tells him he is cursed to be undead until Naughton kills himself and ends the werewolf bloodline. Naughton moves in with Agutter after he is released, and is fine until the first full moon.

The film is really more comedy than horror, but the makeup the first time Naughton turns into a werewolf earned an Oscar. Maltin liked it as much as I did at 3 stars, IMDB readers say 7.1/10, quite high for a comedy and Berardinelli agrees at three stars. Agutter shows a breast in a very dark love scene. The transfer is very grainy, but watchable. High C+.

    "La Gran Vida" (2000)

La Gran Vida (2000) is a marvelous Spanish comedy staring Salma Hayek. It is currently sitting at 8.4/10 at IMDB, but with only 35 votes. Carmelo Gómez is a Madrid city bus driver, and decides to end it all, as he feels like he is in a dead end existence with no money and no friends. He first plan, turning on the gas, fails because his gas has been turned off due to non-payment. Walking through the middle of traffic gets him no closer. He is about to jump off a bridge when a man makes him an interesting offer. He is to borrow $100 million from the Mafia for a week at 50% interest, live the high life for a week, then the Mafia will kill him when he can't pay.

One of his first acts is to through a huge party, where waitress Salma Hayek catches his eye. Saying more would be a spoiler, and I saw every plot twist coming ahead of time anyway, but nothing is exactly what it first seems. There are topless strippers in an early scene (candidates for best anonymous nudity of the year), and Salma shows breasts in a dark love scene. She also is seen in lingerie in several scenes.

I adored this film. The set-up was fresh, and Salma was majorly cute. The DVD is an excellent transfer, and you have your choice of very good dubbed dialogue or subtitles. Art direction and camera work were very nice as well. Even if you are not fond of romantic comedies or foreign films, you might well like this one. B-.

No nudity today, but I looked at a couple of the greatest films of the pre-WW2 era, and I thought you might want to hear about them.

The story behind 1937's Grand Illusion is incredible. Stashed away in warehouses, crossing from border to border in the 50 years from 1941-1991, the original negative was never destroyed, as everyone had previously thought. Even if you have no interest in one of the greatest films ever made, read the inspirational story of how it was found after fifty years, and has now been fully restored and converted to DVD with plenty of extras. Sorry. No nudity.

Aleksandr Nevsky is another highly-regarded movie from the same era. Skip this one, a case of reputation exceeding reality. The DVD is bare-bones with no extras, and the beautiful musical score sounds like it's playing on a hand-cranked Victrola. It was a Soviet pre-war propaganda film basically custom ordered by Stalin, and was a prostitution of the talent of the great Eisenstein. The visuals are beautiful, but the transfer isn't that good. The score is spectacular (Prokoviev), but the audio is disappointing. The rest of the film (action, camera work, acting, pacing, plot) is old-fashioned and overrated. The special effects are laugh-out-loud funny - you'll love the Germans drowning on Styrofoam ice floes. Even the legendary battle scene is tedious and goes on for something like 30 minutes. Even if you're a film scholar, the DVD transfer isn't good enough to merit making it part of your collection, but it is the full 108 minute version, if you've never seen it. (There has been a 94 minute version floating around). No nudity.

Fantastic topless 'caps by The Night from the movie "Epicenter". #1 also shows a hint of pubes and some bum exposure.

    Xenia Seeberg
    (1, 2)

Best known to many Fun House readers for her role on the sci-fi series "Lexx". I've never been a fan, but she definitely has a unique look.

#1 is a mostly nude pose with Xenia covering the goods upstairs with an "arm over boobs" maneuver, and covering up down south with a furry bikini.

#2 has her posing in a skin tight top with some see-thru nipple exposure.

Kim Dickens Kim is topless in a shower scene is 'caps from "Things Behind the Sun" (2001).

Sadie Frost Beautiful 'caps by Watty of Sadie topless in scenes from "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992).
