TV Round-Up


We're headed overseas:

Hollyoaks Later is a recent spinoff from the long-running Hollyoaks soap opera in Britain. This year's series has included a little nudity. Here's Lola Creton showing off a great body.



Fauner Consulting started as an internet comedy series in the German language (from Austria), but the ten episodes are now being broadcast on TV, starting this week. (Info here) Here's Marie Christine Friedrich in episode two.

Here I Am

(2010)

Here I Am is a drama set in Adelaide about Karen (Shai Pittman), who has just been released from prison and attempts to start again. And it starts badly when she has sex with a man she meets at a pub and is woken up in a hotel room by the cleaning staff, one of which is her mother. Karen finally gets to a Aboriginal woman halfway house where she begins to make amends, starting with getting a job and then trying to see her daughter, which her mother refuses. She also interacts with the other members of the halfway house and meets a man and falls for him. After a while, her mother relents and lets her see her daughter in a supervised visit, but it goes wrong and it seems that Karen just can't do anything right. It's going to be a long journey back. Solid, no frills drama with a great lead performance from Shai and solid back up from the supporting cast.

The women of Les adieux a la reine (2012) in 1080p. This is one of my favorite films of the year for nudity because Ledoyen and Seydoux are significant mainstream stars, the former in her thirties, ther latter in her twenties. (Ledoyen might have been a big international star if The Beach had not been such a god-awful movie.) The nudity here illustrates a significant diiference in current French and American attitudes. Imagine Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lawrence doing these scenes today. Not likely is it? The sad thing (for Americans anyway) is that we could have regularly seen such a thing in the 1970s or 1980s, or even ten years ago, but the instances of full, well-lit nudity from established major stars seem to be coming far less frequently these days.
