"Tick-Tock" (2000)

Tick-Tock (2000) is the best thriller I have never heard of. I admit to being put off at first by one of the directors techniques, but, in the end, decided it was a good idea. He shows part of the story from the from the standpoint of a few characters, then shows a clock moving backwards a few hours, and shows the same event, but different point of view. In this way, he builds suspense and provides misdirection in a very new way. Add lots of twists and turns and a great surprise ending, and you have a film well worth watching. Throw in lengthy nudity, including full frontal from Kristin Minter, and this is a must see.

IMDB readers say 7.3/10, which is the right neighborhood. Some of those who have commented at IMDB are reviewing a cable version, so this must have been on TV before video release. There are really no reviews that I could find, but you are better off watching this with no previous knowledge. A high C+ for this one.

    "Leprechaun 3" (1995)

Leprechaun 3 (1995) is labeled Horror at IMDB, and is rated 4.0/10. Were it really a horror film, I would agree with the 4.0, but they finally realized that the Leprechaun story was a much better comedy spoof than a horror film, and went for the comedy on purpose. It is still rather uneven, but is, in my opinion, far better than the first two in the series. Michael Callan is on his way to start college in LA, and decides to see Vegas on the way. He meets Lee Armstrong, who is having car trouble, drives her to her job as a magician's assistant at a casino, and talks her into getting him in to see it, despite his age.

He loses his entire school fund at the tables, goes to a pawn shop to turn his watch into another wagering stake, and ends up with a leprechaun's gold coin. He wishes to be back at the tables on a winning streak, and voila. For the rest of the film, the Leprechaun is trying to get his gold back, as it goes from hand to hand through a comedy of errors. The exposure comes from Heidi Staley, who has a lengthy and well lit nude scene, first on TV, then crawling out the screen and seducing the sleazy casino owner. She shows breasts, and buns in a thong.

This is not a great film, but some of the jokes worked, the gore was way over the top, and the make-up was impressive. Don't plan to write your masters thesis about this film, but it could be a good mindless break from writing your thesis. C, but for comedy/horror.

Ryder, P.I. has no nudity. It's a bad movie, but memorable in two respects. First, it was financed by and starred 60 stand-up comics from the New York area. It was a way to attempt to get their resumes out past the boroughs. If you followed that scene in the 80's in the Apple, it should bring back some memories. Second, it featured Howard Stern (looking like Groucho in an afro, with giant glasses and bushy moustache)

The Big Empty is one odd movie. You'll have to read the entire thing to see what I mean. I liked it very much, despite a budget of about thirty cents.

I Never Promised You a Rose Garden was a sensitive, small,  adaptation of Hannah Green's popular book about her own battle with adolescent mental illness. It's kind of a low-budget version of Girl, Interrupted.  Amazingly enough, it was produced by  Roger Corman.

    • Kathleen Quinlan with no bag over her head (1, 2)

The Forsaken is the latest vampire movie, starring a bunch of WB kids. As you guys know, I hate all vampire movies, and this one is worse than usual.

    Celeb Gossip
The gossip is that Geri Halliwell's new hardbody appearance is the result of some extremely expensive computer-aided editing on her recent videos, and there are relatively few shots of her face and her body in the same shot.

It so happens that she came into the gym where I was working out a few weeks back with her trainer: she was there for about 30 minutes, spent 20 of these on the phone, and for the remaining ten did a workout that Stephen Hawking would find easy. How did she lose all the weight? The rumour is liposuction.
