"Amores Perros" (2000)

Amores Perros (2000) was well-reviewed by Scoopy not long ago, and the short version of my review is "ditto." The narrative structure was interesting, and there was much to think about. I found it a little long, especially in the first act (guy takes his brothers dog to the dog fights and his brothers wife to bed, but that is the act that provided breast exposure from Vanessa Bauche. I think the subtitles were well-translated, and conveyed the meaning of the original (mostly vulgar) slang. Spanish is the most colorful language I am aware of when it comes to profanities, but most of them lose their edge when directly translated.

I agree with Scoops C+ rating. I would award higher if there were more people to like, and a reduced running time.

    "The Godfather" (1972)

The big news for next week in the release department is that the Godfather Trilogy is finally coming to DVD, and in a deluxe set of 5 DVDs. Godfather 2 requires two DVDs, and there is a separate DVD of extra features, which I hope to be watching in a few minutes. You may remember that I capped this film from a bootleg a few months ago. Scoopy suggested that I redo it from the high quality transfer, and it was a good suggestion. The transfer is so crisp, it is almost like it is a different film.

For those who don't remember, the exposure comes from Simonetta Stefanelli, whom Michael marries in Sicily while in hiding. She shows both breasts in pretty good light undressing to consummate her marriage. You all know that this is the most popular film of all time at IMDB, and this new transfer will not damage that reputation. B.

    "Undercurrent" Revisited

Thanks to a sharp Fun House member, I now know that one of the strippers in in "Undercurrent" was Lorissa McComas.

Bridget Jones' Diary is one of the ten best of the year so far, and the best 2001 film of its type. Consistently funny, consistently interesting, refreshingly real for a romantic comedy. Even Hugh Grant is good in it, in defiance of the natural laws of the universe, although he had somewhat of an advantage in that he was cast in the part of Hugh Grant. (I think they changed the name of the character a bit, to Gogi Grant. Gogi, of course, is the Dutch word for "Hugh")

Here's how the 2001 films rank so far at IMDb:

    Memento
    Amelie (FR)
    Ghost World
    Moulin Rouge!
    Shrek
    The Others
    Jay and Silent Bob
    Bridget Jones
    Rat Race
    Enemy at the Gates

I have only seen five of the ten, as you can see. I would rate them (1)Memento (2 tied) Enemy at the Gates (2) Bridget Jones's Diary (4) Jay and Silent Bob (5) The Others. Frankly, I'm kind of surprised to see The Others on the Top 10 list, but then I was surprised to see it make such a smash at the box office as well, although I thought it was a good flick. The tie for second is because I don't see any way to compare such dissimilar films. They are both good.

As it stands now, I'm guessing that Memento will be the only one to make the Oscar nominees, unless everything else stinks the rest of the year. (Ghost World has been a critical darling, but I gather it is too dark for the academy crowd.)

I'm guessing that Zellweger will probably get a Best Actress nomination, unless unforseen brilliance arrives between now and then. I'd expect Guy Pearce to be nominated, as well as Bob Hoskins in Enemy at the Gates in the supporting category. (Hugh Grant is also an outside possibility, and I wouldn't mind seeing him win just because he would make a great acceptance speech.)

The Godfather is a movie you have probably heard of already. All three Godfather films will come out Tuesday in a 5-disk set. One thing I had forgotten is that they run more than 9 hours between the three of them, plus there are about 25 deleted scenes, so you could spend most of your life watching these films.

Godfather is rated #1 of all time at IMDb, which sort of conflicts with my rating, since I don't even rate it number one in the trilogy. Godfather, Part 2 is a really terrific flick, and certainly a legitimate candidate for "best ever", although I have no idea how to choose just one. I guess if I was forced to pick only one in the entire history of film, I'd have to go with Shakes the Clown.

I have made the point before, but for you new guys, we've been searching for the "perfect" actors and actresses - the people who eliminate the need for TV Guide. Thus, if Person X is in a movie, it is guaranteed to be good (or bad). So far we have identified two:

    • Pauly Shore has never been in anything good. His best rated non-animated film at IMDb is The Son in Law at 4.9, about like one and a half stars out of four!! If he's in a film, it's your guarantee that it stinks.
    • John Cazale (Fredo) was never in anything bad. His WORST movie was Dog Day Afternoon at 7.9 (About four stars, #201 on the all-time list). In other words, if he's in a movie, it's four stars! (Note, they used footage of him in the lower-rated "Godfather, Part 3", but he had been dead for 12 years when they made that film). He died at 42.

Anyway, here's Simonetta Stefanelli from the first Godfather film  (1, 2, 3, 4)

One reader wrote in to remind me that some of the the images in Crash were day-for-night shots that could be cleaned up. Just for info, here's what one looks like without the clichéd blue filter.

  • Rachel Weisz, since she didn't get nude in "The Mummy Returns"...let's go back a few years and remind everyone what she's been hiding. Here she is topless and showing a hint of pubes in scenes from "Stealing Beauty" (1996).

Be sure to pay Graphic Response a visit at his website. www.graphic-barry.com.

  • Tomkru
Today's batch starts off with 5 pics of Neda Arneric. This Serbian actress is probably only known to many of us from "Shaft in Africa" (1973).

  • Topless in "Haloa - praznik kurvi" (1988)
  • Partial side breast view from "Lov u mutnom" (1981)
  • Side breast exposure from "Un peu, beaucoup, passionnément" (1971)
  • A promotional pic of Neda with side breast visibility and partial bum exposure

    Next...

  • Sonja Savic, another Serbian actress in scenes from "Una" (1984). Well, her bum anyway. Funhouse readers will recognize the dude she's with...that's Rade Serbedzija, he is now an official Hollywood "Russian". You've seen him in "The Saint", "Eyes Wide Shut", "Snatch", "Space Cowboys", and "Mission: Impossible II"...usually as the bad guy.

  • Variety
Linda Gray Fully nude on stage as the new Mrs. Robinson in "The Graduate". This scan of the 60 year old Gray is from the British tabloid, The Daily Mail.

The big question of course is "What ever happened to Anne Archer?" Did anyone ever get any pics of her stint in the long running London show?

From Schmutzfink...The German actress giving up the goods in three movies...
  • Link #1...Very nice topless and rear nude scenes from "Eine Lüge zuviel" (1997)
  • Link #2...Breast exposure from "Morgen gehört der Himmel dir" (1999)
  • Links 3 and 4 show a variety of brief nip slips in "Antonia - Zwischen Liebe und Macht" (2001)

  • Melissa George
    (1, 2)

I think we've all seen these 'caps from "Dark City" (1998) before, but how can you say no seeing this Aussie actress topless! Vidcaps by Feckit.

    Alexondra Lee
    (1, 2, 3)

    Unknown

Non-nudes, but Alexondra did look pretty hot with plenty of cleavage and a nice latex outfit on Wednesday night's "Special Unit 2". The mystery babe looks pretty good too in a bikini. Great 'caps by Dead Lamb.

Bjork The always unusual "singer" and "actress" going topless (with pierced nipples) in one of her videos. A great find by Art Carlson.

    Jordan
    (1, 2)

aka Katie Price, the UK babe famous only for being nude. Nice work if you can get it I suppose. Here is a before and after retrospective. Link #1 is a very nice full frontal with the boobs she came with. Link #2 shows the post-jumbo-jack-robo-hooter installation. Not a change for the better if you ask me.

    Hollyanne Leonard
    (1, 2, 3)

Three great images from the master of the fashion scan, Blackshine. No nudity in these, but link #2 has some serious leg and a very open top.

    Katie Holmes

    Cate Blanchett

Fantastic collages featuring scenes from "The Gift". You all know what Katie shows, but the Cate 'caps are a little less familiar to Fun House readers. Cate has a great upskirt scene that is definitely worth a look.

Alex Kingston This is new to me...the "ER" star showing a very brief bit of nipple in scenes from "Moll Flanders" (1996). Thanks to Watty.

    Susan Sarandon
    (1, 2)

Another round of great images by Watty. Susan Sarandon topless and in her prime in this scene from "Pretty Baby" (1978).
