"Hellraiser" (1987)

Clive Barker's Hellraiser is a way better than average horror offering marred by a very weak performance from Andrew Robinson. Robinson and his wife move into his family house, not realizing that his brother, who seduced his wife on her wedding day, is living as a skeletal captive of evil spirits in the attic. When Robinson cuts his hand, and bleeds on the floor, the brother begins to revive. His wife, Clare Higgins, comes to the brothers aid by finding men for him to eat.

Higgins shows a nipple, and her butt, in flashbacks. The imagery in the film is good to excellent. Barker, who wrote and directed, used way too many fast cuts, but, overall, produced a genre film with definite tension and pace. Art direction was very nice, as was makeup. The most interesting image to me is the one of the erotic netsuke (Japanese carving), as it is an especially nice piece. If you like horror, you will like this. I is newly released in a special edition, which includes the sequel, a big book of info, and comes in a tin. All in all, a nice package.

    The Arena (1973)

Do you like movies about gladiators, Tommy?

I don't know about you guys, but I don't. Hell, Kubrick directed Spartacus, and I don't even like that one very much. The Russell Crowe one was pretty good, but that makes one out of a zillion or so.

In general, perhaps I should add to the Scoopy Unities - leather strap-around leg wear is a sure sign of top quality entertainment, from Victor Mature to Steve Reeves.

I guess it could be worse. It was better than David Arquette's Othello. Actually, I kinda liked Arquette in that Al Jolson blackface, but I found Chris Klein to be a dubious casting choice as the scheming Iago. Or maybe I just dreamed that.

Man, I gotta cut down on spicy food before bedtime.

This Arena movie is an especially sloppy cheapozoid exploitation flick. I guess they cut a couple scenes that should have stayed, because there is at least one major contunuity error, but worse than that there's at least one plot development that couldn't have happened at all - at least not without some explanation, however shabby.

    That's the bad news.

    The good news is:

  • this one is about FEMALE gladiatiors
  • they get naked
  • one of them is Pam Grier, stark nekkid, 24 years old

And that, my friends, is the rest of the story.

    Good day.

IMDB summary: 4.2 out of 10.

    Baseball stuff

I looked at some of the situational stats and other quaint and curious lore from the 2000 season, and I started to change my mind about who should be the AL MVP. Based on my first look at the stats, taking park effects into account, I had said that Pedro and A-Rod were about even in value, but when I looked at the clutch hitting stats, I had to admit there was a third candidate about equal to those two.

One guy was in the leaders in every clutch situation - in the late innings with the game on the line, with runners in scoring position, in September with the playoffs on the line, with the bases loaded ... you name it. Plus he was very close to A-Rod and Pedro even before I started looking at that stuff.

Who? Read about that and other Year 2000 baseball trivia here.

Incidentally, www.johnny-web.com is now my official baseball site. In order to get it listed on family-oriented search engines, I had to move all my baseball material to a separate site which doesn't link to my naughty stuff.

Helena Bonham Carter and Lynn Redgrave - "Getting It Right". Some very rare shots here especially the Redgrave topless scenes.

    Comments by Oz:

Deborah Fallender Deborah's film time in Jabberwocky was spent nude. She played a princess eagerly awaiting a prince. Unfortunately, even her nude greeting did not persuade Michael Palin to stay.
Anna Meininger Anne played the one night stand at the very beginning of Bravo Two Zero. Her entire screen time was spent asleep. The film itself was set in the Iraq war and concerned a group of British soldiers sent behind the enemy lines to sabotage communication links. It wasn't a bad flick.
Jessie Faller From Perdita Durango, the revelations of Aimee Graham and Rosie Perez have already appeared in the Fun House. However, at the beginning of the film Jessie played a bank teller who was forced to strip during a bank robbery. He must have had a liking for silicone.
    Roadhouse

    Julie Michaels
    (1, 2)

Most caps from Roadhouse involve the lovely Kelly Lynch. But there were a few other actresses baring their assets. In particular there was Julie Michaels. She played the girl friend of the man Patrick Swayze eventually eliminated. There is also a collage of some unnamed actresses who shed their clothes.
    Kelly Lynch
    (1, 2, 3)
Speaking of Kelly Lynch, she was one of the stars in the enjoyable movie "Cold Around the Heart". She was a criminal who betrayed her partner. Most of the film showed how he set about exacting his revenge. An unusual ending. The first two collages show a nude Kelly making love to her partner. The final collage shows them just before the very end.
Minnie Driver Who needs an excuse to show this? She has some underwear on, but she is coming out of the sea in Big Night.
    Fionnula Flanagan
    (1, 2, 3)
Fionnula was an incredible 58 when she made A Secret Affair. She doesn't reveal much, just a brief topless flash as she gets dressed.

    Cheyne Coates
    (1, 2)
Finished up the Cheyne Coates scans from Black and White magazine. You will recall that she is in the Aussie singing duo, Madison Avenue. Nice face, nice... south of the border.
    Liz Hurley

    Amber Smith

The Liz Hurley and Amber Smith scans are cleaned up magazine covers (GQ for Liz, Maxim for Amber); took me forever and didn't do a particularly good job with Liz but it is the divine Ms Hurley we are talking about.
Kate Hudson Kate Hudson seems to be the flavor of the month so far as celebs are concerned. So here's another heapin' helpin.
Rachel Hunter Also Pieced together a couple of my favorite Rachel Hunter scans for you...
    Debee Ashby
    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
And the page 3 babe of the day is Debee Ashby. You can tell by the scans that she started young and a little pudgy but got progressively more attractive in the years she was on page 3. Nice trend.

    Chyna Comments by Intrepid Sleuth:
Nothing very revealing in these pics, but interesting none the less. The first one is of Chyna, it's just a glamor shot, but I would hate to think what would happen to the poor sap that told her it was a bit over-the-top! The second pic is a see-through of Geena Davis. The third is a see-through of Geri Halliwell. The fourth is just a cleavage shot of Heather locklear, but dang she looks good!

    Schmutzfink
Saffron Burrows The Schmutzfink theme this week....See-thrus.
First up, Saffron from "Circle of Friends". Nice cleavage, and a near nip slip. Looks like she was a few pounds heavier back in '95 (or at least not as wafer thin). Personally I think it suits her.
Shannen Doherty Excellent pokie sighting from the notorious "Hollywood Bad Girl". Vidcaps from "Charmed".
Sophia Loren Terriffic classic wet shirt see-thru from the 1957 movie "Boy on a Dolphin". For '57 this must have been pretty darn close to hard core porn!
Wendel Meldrum See-thru scenes from 1993's "Hush Little Baby"
    Milka From "VIVA Interaktiv"
    and ...
    Myriam Mézières
    (1, 2, 3)
Hot stuff from "Le Journal de Lady M". Obviously, the folks who made this wanted to show a lot of sex and skin. Is it a "porno"? I don't think so, but damn if they don't come close. Basically if you can name the body part, it's visible.
    Megan Gale
    (1, 2)
Two great nude poses. Scans by PicCap.
Ashley Laurence Thongs and pierced nipples from "Murder of Crows", by Watty.
Virginie Ledoyen Excellent 'new to me' 'caps from "Jeanne et le garçon formidable" (aka Jeanne and the Perfect Guy). Nice topless images and a hint of pubes.
Jessica Simpson Jessica Simpson's Accidental Derriere Exposure.
Penelope Cruz Fantastic collection of paparazzi pics of the Spanish actress.
