"Betty Blue"

Betty Blue (1986) is a classic French bit of erotic drama. At over three hours, it is rather short on plot, but long on nudity, both male and female. Jean-Hugues Anglade has pretty much withdrawn from life, and works as a handyman for the landlord in a beach shack when he meets Béatrice Dalle. She is sexy, passionate and beautiful, but not quite sane. Of course, he is too busy getting laid to notice at first. When she sets fire to their beach shack, he starts to get an inkling, but loves her, and the good times make her strangeness worth it.

He has written a novel, but never even attempted to submit it to publishers. She types it from his hand-written notebooks, and sends it off. Things get serious when she assaults a publisher who sent a particularly rude rejection, and things get steadily worse from then on. Both Anglade and Dalle are nude through a great deal of the film, beginning with a very hot sex scene at the start of the film. They both have lengthy full frontal in good light. As a matter of fact, the light is not only good, it is beautiful.

The film did very well in France, but not nearly as well here, but then the US version was heavily cut, and, frankly, the sex and nudity are a large part of the appeal of this film. It is now available on a Region 1 DVD in the Uncut version, both dubbed, and in the original French with optional subtitles. This is a C+. It is very well done, but will be a very long watch for people who need a lot of plot and pace.

    • The yellow asterisks indicate that I wrote the review, and am deluded into thinking it includes humor.
    • If there is a white asterisk, it means that there isn't any significant humor, but I inexplicably determined there might be something else of interest.
    • A blue asterisk indicates the review is written by Tuna (or Junior or Brainscan, or somebody else besides me)
    • If there is no asterisk, I wrote it, but am too ashamed to admit it.

    Shiloh

    Words from Scoop.

    .avi's from Shiloh.

.wmv files made by Scoop from Shiloh's .avi's.

NOTE: because of a unique combination of circumstances with the Windows media player and some substantial bandwidth theft, we will have to do all of our movie files in zip format. Left click on the files as you normally would to view a picture. When you get a choice, click on "save", and put it on your hard drive in the directory of your choice. UnZIP and play from there.

I know this is not especially convenient, but it allows the film clips to continue. I can protect .zip files from hot-linking in the same way I can protect still images. For some reason, if I protect .avis and .wmvs from hot-linking, they will not play in the Windows media player, and I can't get a satisfactory work-around. Perhaps I will find a better solution, but for now this new policy allows you to continue getting the movie clips you want to see, which is much preferable to my abandoning the clips altogether.

    The Cooler

Very enjoyable film. Basically a 30s-style flick with Alec Baldwin in the Cagney good-bad role and William Macy in the Jimmy Stewart everyman part.

    Croupier

    Bonus (not from Shiloh)

"The world breaks everyone. And afterwards, many are strong at the broken places. Those that will not break, it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave, impartially. If you are none of these things it will kill you too, but there will be no special hurry."

    • Film review. I would like this movie even without Alexandra Kingston naked. (98% positive reviews, per Rotten Tomatoes, although the IMDb score is only 7.4, and it is not in the Top 250. It was a movie about a writer, adored by writers. It has not resonated as well with average moviegoers).

    • (.wmv zipped) And Alex looks great naked, which makes the movie even better. Her nudity in Essex Boys is better - with better lighting and framing - but Essex Boys is a so-so gangster film, while Croupier is a bit of an offbeat masterpiece

Perhaps these tips will help if you have trouble with the codecs for these movies:

    Shiloh says:

FYI when I hypercam vids to make the file size smaller I use DivX MPEG-4 Fast-Motion for the video compressor, then I use virtualdub to compress the audio. The properties for the vids says the video codec:  DivX Decoder Filter & audio codec:  Morgan Stream Switcher which I'm not familiar with. When I compress the audio with virtualdub I use MPEG Layer-3.  A friend of mine told me about compressing the audio about (6) mos. ago. Like I said previously, only been capping for a year & a half & I'm no expert. Hopefully this info will help members with the proper codecs for my vids.

When I cap big brother's I use hypercam mostly & sdp & asfrecorder if the set up allows me. I stopped using camtasia cause the file sizes were always too big, could never figure out the process, over my head lol, plus it cost too much to buy in my opinion.

    A reader says:

You mentioned that some users were having trouble with the videos on your site. There is a tool designed to determine what codec is needed for a video. http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ Hope this is useful to you or your users.

    Scoop says:

I made the .wmv versions of each video. The codecs for these: Windows Video V8, Windows Audio 9. The upside of these is that you know the codecs, and they'll play in the Windows Media Player. The downside is that they are slightly larger, and slightly lower quality.

    Crimson Ghost
NOTE: We currently have to do all of our movie files in zip format. Instead of viewing them online, save the zip files to your hard drive in the directory of your choice, un-zip and play from there.

Today the Ghost takes a look at the 1995 direct-to-vid flick "Body Language", starring Tom Berenger, Nancy Travis and Robert Patrick.

Both ladies show breasts and thong views as "brass pole enthusiasts". Schanz also has a love scene or two and gives up some additional toplessness and rear nudity.

    'Caps and comments by Spaz:

    "Sex Traffic" (miniseries)
CBC drama miniseries about two Eastern European sisters lured into a white slavery ring where they're subjected to forced baths by a lesbian and stripped naked for white slavery auctions. Nothing new here. Czechploitation director Lloyd Simandl has been making such movies for the last ten years. Despite the nudity and graphic rape scenes this was only rated PG as all the naughty words were bleeped out.

Paradise Falls season 2, week 4
No female nudity this week but the Admiral did show his dork.

    • Raven Dauda: sexy in underwear, fully clothed sex with Admiral.
    • Preview: more lesbian action by Danielle Hampton and Michelle Latimer for next week.

    PLAYBOY STILL COURTING SARANDON
Show Us "Thelma And Louise!" Susan Sarandon told "Access Hollywood" that Playboy has been trying to get her to pose nude for years, and still is now that she's 58. But she said her sons are just getting to the age where they look at Playboy, so they'd kill her if she did it.

  • That's a little too much "Access."
  • At their age, seeing their 58-year-old mom in Playboy could turn them off of women permanently.
  • Heff must think that 58 is her bust size.

THIS JUST IN: FRENCH ARE RUDE!
Stop Le Presses! - French Parliament Senator Bernard Plasait issued a damning report on why France is suffering a big drop in tourism. Turns out it's because the French are arrogant, rude and surly. The list of tourist complaints includes slow baggage handlers, no "Welcome to France" signs at the Paris airport, cab drivers who refuse to speak English, and a general haughty attitude that it's a great honor to visit France. Plasait admitted this is not a new problem, as English author Horace Walpole wrote in the 18th century that he found the French insolent and detestable.

  • But we had to put up with it until California wines improved.
  • And Americans and Brits will only put up with being insulted for 200 years, max.
  • Cab drivers refuse to speak English? Come on! That shouldn't count as a tourist complaint since we have that in the US too.

    BLACK COFFEE IS RACIST
They Get A Black Mark For Logic - London Daily Record columnist Shari Low reports that staffers at the coffee shop in Glasgow, Scotland's, Mitchell Library took political correctness to the limit by refusing to serve a customer who ordered "black coffee." They told him the term was racist and they would only serve him if he ordered "coffee without milk."

  • Or African-American coffee.
  • He could also say, "One coffee, hold the whitey."
