Everybody's Beautiful (2000), or Iedereen beroemd!, is a delightful film from The Netherlands that lost to Crouching Tiger for best foreign film last year. Think Ruthless People meets the Full Monty. The tone is very reminiscent of the recent quirky British comedies centered around common folk that I enjoy so much. Josse De Pauw works in a bottle factory, but dreams of writing a song for his 18 year old rather large daughter Marva (Eva van der Gucht) so she can become a recording star like Debbie (Thekla Reuten). When the factory closes, he meets the famous Thekla on the road, and kidnaps her, bringing his best friend who was also laid off in on the plot. The plan is simple, hold Thekla until his song is produced and his daughter performs it on TV.

The record producer realizes that the publicity from a kidnapped star is worth more than actually having the star on TV. Thekla shows her pert breasts in a fairly long scene. IMDB readers say 7.4/10, which is very high for a foreign comedy with subtitles. I found the film very accessible, and lots of fun. C+.

This version of Moll Flanders is the Robin Wright version, not the Alex Kingston PBS version. It's kinda weird in that it takes place about 1700, and its lead character is the same as in Defoe's novel, but it has nothing else to do with either that century or that novel. It is basically a story about 20th century people, in which the lower classes have perfect dental care, except that they are all wearing 18th century clothing. The lead character is named Moll Flanders, but that really doesn't have anything to do with the famous novel of the same name. If you want to see a fairly accurate version of that novel, see the PBS version

Of course, those facts don't mean that it can't be an entertaining movie. It isn't great, but a lot of people like it as a stand-alone yarn unrelated to Defoe or his times. Think of it as a "what if", and it isn't so bad, kinda inspiring, although it is long and almost humorless.

• Robin Wright. She hasn't shown that much flesh, so this is a real treat for her fans. If you are into flat-chested women, here's your poster girl. (1, 2, 3, 4)

Bride of the Wind is a biopic of Alma Mahler. Alma was a woman most famous for being desired by every single man who ever met her in turn-of-the-century Vienna. After you watch the movie, you'll have no idea why that was true. The movie has beautiful images, Mahler's music, and Kokoshka's paintings. Period. All of those are memorable, so watch it if you'd like to see a beautiful period travelogue for Viennese sights and sounds. Otherwise, spend your time more wisely.

There is a new Encyclopedia Volume for Sean Young in Volume Y of the Encyclopedia. Check it out from the main members' page. We have nude scenes from Sean in ten different movies. Various sources say that she also has been naked briefly in four other movies: Fire Birds,  Blue Ice, Boost, and Even Cowgirls Get The Blues. If anybody has captures of Sean in those films, we'd appreciate anything you could contribute.

Our 6th Anniversary

I'm actually not sure of the exact date now, but Uncle Scoopy's Fun House went "on the air" in November, 1995, so we are now celebrating six years of chasing down the famous flesh. It wasn't a daily newsmagazine at first, but I think we've had a daily update every day now since August, 1997, about 1500 days in a row without missing an update. Four people have written the Fun House at one time or another. Me, Junior, Tuna (about 10-20 issues. Tuna helped you ring in the millennium, since he was the webmaster on Dec 31, 1999 and Jan 1, 2000!), and a guy nicknamed The Realist (about 60 issues), who is now a serious academic and an infrequent contributor. I'm not sure how many Junior has written, and how many I have, but he must be getting about even with me, or possible even ahead. A few hundred of the early issues are lost to posterity, but every one since the middle of May, 1998 is archived on the site.

In those six years, I generated between 15,000 and 20,000 scans and vidcaps under many names, mostly Johnny Web, and Tuna is not far behind and closing fast. Tuna's output is far more amazing because he's done it in one third the time!  As you know, I average about seven or eight collages per day, and Tuna does about three times that. Of course, our 30,000 images seem like a lot to us, but are a drop in the total site bucket. About 150,000 images have appeared in the Fun House at one time or another.
