Predskazanie

I found this 1993 Russian-language film to be just about unwatchable. The quality of the recording is bad, to be sure, but this would be a dreary movie if it looked slicker than Avatar. Too bad, because the movie was directed by Eldar Ryazanov, who years earlier had directed some of the most viewer-friendly films of the Soviet Era, including The Irony of Fate, which may be single most popular Russian-language film in history. (It's the Russian equivalent of It's a Wonderful Life, an annual TV event for the December/January holidays.)

So why am I bothering to tell you about this flick? Because it contains a nude scene from the gorgeous screen veteran Irene Jacob. The film is obscure enough that this scene is seen approximately never, and Jacob was a 26-year-old beauty at the time. Don't be fooled by the fairly nice quality of the frontal nude in the still capture below. That frame has been tinkered with by an expert. Oh, it's not fake. That scene is on the clip, but it's really too dark to see anything.

The clip does offer a pretty decent look at her breasts when she gets out of bed, and then a smoky look at them through a window pane.

Jacob does not speak Russian, so she either learned her lines phonetically or was dubbed. I guess she was dubbed because: (1) director Ryazanov has been known in the past to hire beautiful foreign actresses, then dub them into Russian; (2) Jacob has a distinctively sexy voice when she speaks French and English, but that is not evident here.

  • * Yellow asterisk: funny (maybe).

  • * White asterisk: expanded format.

  • * Blue asterisk: not mine.

  • No asterisk: it probably sucks.

The Chain Reaction

(1980)

The Chain Reaction is an early 80s nuclear paranoia thriller (in Australia, really?) about a couple (Steve Bisley and Arna-Maria Winchester) who are going to their cabin for a weekend away and just happen to get involved in a nuclear conspiracy. This is because a worker at a nuclear waste facility has managed to become irradiated and has escaped the facility after an earthquake causes a leak and manages to get as far as the cabin. The boss of the nuclear waste facility is desperate to cover up, so that means everyone must die. But, they weren't banking on Steve Bisley and his hotted up ute. Bizarre relic from the nuclear paranoia era that's more action thriller than anything thoughtful with some decent car chases which are great to watch, but seem out of place. A nice smattering of nudity from both leads, but I'm puzzled as to what to make of it all.

"Queen Kat, Carmel & St. Jude"

1999

Nothing much on TV over summer in Australia, so it's time to go to the DVDs. Never thought I'd ever see the 1999 miniseries Queen Kat, Carmel & St. Jude on DVD or ever again. Interesting choice and pretty obscure. Love to see other obscure series released like Love is a Four Letter Word and that terrible miniseries Tribe which had some good nudity. What about One Way Ticket? And where has Elissa Elliot gone? Looking at her filmography, I'd thought she'd done more, but apart from this and The Bob Morrison Show, it's the odd guest role. Shame...

Pics

Chloe Sevigny naked again

Some pretty cool animated gifs of Dree Hemingway from ID magazine. She definitely has the same body as Mariel. (Mariel's original one, that is, as seen in Personal Best.)

Sonja Codhant in The Voyage of Penelope (1996)

Vanessa Howard in Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny, and Girly (1970)

I don't remember this film at all. Vanessa's career was very brief. She married Hollywood big shot Robert Chartoff and retired from acting. He's still producing. They're still married.

Tara Fitzgerald in The Vacillations of Poppy Carew (1995)

Janet Leigh in Psycho (1960) (whatever)
