The Good Wife (1987) is a character driven drama that takes place in a small town in 1939 Australia. Rachel Ward is married to a lumber worker. The two of them live way out of town, and her husbands kid brother is always around. Rachel feels noting exciting ever happens, or will happen to her. Even when her brother-in-law moves in with them, and her husband allows them to have sex, things are no better. Then she meets a dashing new barman, and becomes obsessed. Her husband doesn't wan to lose her, but also does not want to do anything that will make her hate him, and tries to deal with her obsession as best he can, even when she becomes the focus of town gossip.

Rachel never shows her body parts, but looked so good I included a few images of her more sexy outfits. Susan Lyons shows her breasts briefly, but in good light, near the end of the film. You need to watch both the Widescreen and 4/3 versions to see the exposure. The film is beautifully photographed, well acted, and is full of interesting characters. IMDB scores it 5.6/10. Ebert says one 1/2 star, complaining about a leisurely pace. It won AFI best costume, and was nominated for several technical and acting awards. I liked it somewhat more than most, mostly for the characterizations. C-.

A very happy holiday season to all of you, whatever your faith or lack of it. In our family we celebrate Festivus - with the plain aluminum pole, the feats of strength, and (of course) the traditional airing of grievances. This Festivus, have lots of fun, don't mix drinking and driving. So if you get drunk at someone's house, stay overnight, fuck his wife, then steal some of his presents when you sneak out in the morning. Because although drinking doesn't mix with driving, it does mix with casual sex and petty theft.

Carrington is a biopic about an English painter named Dora Carrington, who had the rather unfortunate circumstance of falling in love with a noted homosexual, the author Lytton Strachey. Their relationship endured until his death. They sometimes lived together, and they even shared bisexual male lovers. The nudity comes from Emma Thompson, of all people!

The End of the Affair is the film version of Graham Greene's ethically complex and spiritual novel about a curious love triangle in London during the German attacks. Beautiful looking movie, good for about 11 hankies in the weepy-ass dyin' woman category. Was nominated by the Academy for Best Cinematography, and was nominated by the Golden Globes for Best Picture.

The Big Lebowski is quite a broad comedy from the Coen Brothers, highlighted by Jeff Bridges' performance as a laid-back stoner.
